Another question: What happens if you want to back out for other reasons before the car is built? Since we are putting money down on a car that many of us have not seen first hand and none of us know the price will be, what will happen if we do not like what we see (car or price)

?

Is the down payment guaranteed to be returned? Does the car still get built and become the dealers property to sell at a higher price? If so, that may answer why so many dealers were willing to take just over dealer cost.

What happens if your order a 2003 with your certificate and then decide not to purchase it when it arrives. Does the Dealer get to sell it to anyone, or does the dealer have to give the car to the next certificate holder in line?

BINGO...great questions!

And that's why you have to go to a reputable dealer, who is willing to write a contract that will allow you to HAVE the car if you want it, or get a full refund if you don't.

Most dealers (see the sponsors of our website) will surely be glad as heck to take the car if you don't want it... so that's not really an issue....

More important is that you have an iron-clad contract that says you WILL get the car, no matter what the market could bear, at the price quoted on the contract (which obviously has to do with "amount below MSRP" or "amount above dealer invoice").

Please note that it has already been discussed how tricky these terms can be. BE CAREFUL, and go to a dealer you can trust!
