Would a Nur spec ACR make sense?

I see Nissan back at the Ring and have "claimed" that the base GTR has run a 7:26 lap now. Thats right there with the ZR1. Now they are releasing the Spec V which is lighter and more aggressively tuned overall though with the same hp. They are speculating the Spec V GTR will be in the high teens on the Ring since the regular GTR is already ZR1 fast at the famed Ring.

Nissan clocks unofficial 7:26.7 'Ring time, gets dangerously close to ZR1

Im feeling like Chrysler/Fiat, or whatever they are now, could capatilize on this for minimal cost by offering the ACR with a Nur spec setup as a "factory option". Swap out the current gearing/suspension for gearing and suspension better suited to the Ring, an ecu upgrade for a bit more power/tq [not that it needs it] and call it "Nur Spec" option or whatever. That 7:22 is not going to be safe for long, but the real deal is that the ACR is yet to run the Ring at full potential. If they werent in such financial straights Im sure Chrysler/SRT team would probably do it.

IIRC, all they'd need to do now is put on a dash plaque.

I think the 7:26 time is the Spec V protype version (lightened with no back seat and more HP) -- price tag to be over $100K. Nissan's previously stated goal with the Spec V was 7:25 on the Ring, which they might eventually pare down to 7:23 or 7:24. All Nissan really cares about is beating Porsche and to a lesser degree, Chevy. I don't think the Viper ACR is really on their competition radar.

With a few tweaks and a couple months of Ring time, the ACR can probably squeak below 7:20.

I like the idea, if only to cement the thought in people's minds that the Viper is one of the world's BEST performing cars on the track.:drive:Regardless of price. :D
I think that the biggest improvement would be to swap out the Viper's gears.
With a 3.55 rear swap and spacing all 6 speed gear optimally for best acceleration, as opposed to today which has a relatively tall 3.07 rear gear and having 5th and 6th gears mostly set up for getting better gas mileage.

You could see on the current record holding ACR Viper that the driver was running into the rev limiter on several occasions, whereas evenly spaced gears would give him better power delivery throughout the track.

Plus I'd have the package include a freer breathing exhaust, ECU reprogramming, and other tweaks and optimization for the Nurburgring track.

I read that the SRT team had seen 7.teens runs in simulations of the ACR running at the Ring, and this package would further extend the lead that the ACR Viper holds over all other production high performance cars, and continue to set the standard that everyone ELSE has to beat for years to come.:2tu:

I think if Dodge/Fiat added all the mopar goodies including a 3.55 gearset to the ACR, they would break the 7 second barrier! Can you imagine a 6.99 on the ring!

That would be impressive. You're getting into warp speeds there. :omg:

Would the 3.55 really help though? Was the car not already bumping the limiter in the top of 6th on the straightaway (memory foggy here - have to rewatch video)?

My memory be foggy too, but what I recall is that Tom Coronel (go Holland!) was staying in 4th or 5th because the car wasn't gonna go substantially faster due to the huge amount of downforce.
Because of that a different sized rear end, maybe in combination with slightly different sized gears inside the tranny could very well make a crucial difference on the (shorter) stretches where Tom kept hitting the limiter, thus providing him an advantage during a new attempt where they will hopefully have more suspension tuning time as well.

The top of 6th gear is somewhere near 525km/hr or about 325mph. They were a long, long way from that speed....

Top speed in 5th is about 220mph - they were a long way from that too.

If he was hitting the rev limiter they were NOT in 5th or 6th.

A rear ratio change to a shorter gear doesn't always improve lap times. It depends on many factors including the time it takes to make the extra shifts up then down again.

Shortening 5th from .74 to .84 would make it a usable gear at the 'Ring, and probably drop the car's time by 1-2 seconds in the really fast part without hurting it anywhere else, where the gearing seemed pretty good. Maybe raise the rev limiter 250rpm too.

We can only hope that SRT finally got OFFICIAL funding for more than just one track day after they showed ACR muscle (hopefully with a few little tweaks to prevent hitting the rev limiter?).. not likely gonna happen in these troubled economical times.

I vote for the next raffle car to be the one to make the next attempt. A 1 of 1 ACR that broke the record would sure be a nice stable mate.
