Methanol = Methyl Hydrate ?

I am wondering if Methanol is the same as Methyl Hydrate.
Local hardware store sells it for heating purpose ($5).
The sales guy told me that they are not the same.
I thing they are.

What's the truth ?
Before I poor this liquid into the water injection system I want to be sure it rigth for the engin.

get something that is called "HEET" yellow bottle from autozone. That is pure ****. Or goto a gocart store and buy it there for about $5 a gallon.

What mixture concentration would be the best for water/methol mix? Will more methenol add horsepower?

You should be able to find wood alcohol and any of the big box hardware stores.

Yes, you are right. This is what I dug out from my old school books and the Web. Methyl Hydrate is a synonym for Wood alcool and Methanol. But since the salesman swore that they were not the same I wasn't sure.

Regarding the concentration, the max that Sean recommends is 50% but I would even go lower because Methanol can be corrosive. One of the purposes of the Methanol is the prevent the injectors in the intake from frozing. Yes that can happen if the outside temperature is to low.
