That's funny...I have a Quaife in my Miata and it was only $2,500.00. Well I guess that's about right then 5 X 100 HP (Miata) = 500 HP (Viper) and 5 X $ 2,500.00 (Miata) = $12,500.00 (Viper). Funny

:dunno:

i am looking into it, from what I can gather from research the straight cut gears are very noisy. They do offer helical cut gears for this transmission, which should be more quiet.

As I get more information i will post it up.

please do but I'd want straight cut gears to shift quicker.

Sequential straight-cut (yum!). Listen to videos of GTP cars -- that's what it will sound like. Go fer it Carl!!! Oh, or you can get a racing kart and roll out with us instead!

The ZF 6spd transmissions in the early C4 vettes 89-93 used the straight cut gears and then switched to the helical cut gears in late 93-96. They made the switch to quiet them down but power handling capability went down as well.

A staight cut dog box will be the box of choice for big HP.
The cool thing with a dog box is ,it is almost a no lift shift.Breath the throttle just a hair to unload the box and shift...No clutch.

Upshifts ..it is highly recomended to match RPM's..Heal/toe...
I have a good customer in California that owns a place called
7's Only. He builds and races Tube chassis GT type RX7,S.
Last year I sent him 18 Jerico's.

His guys went from a synro box to a dog box,and knocked off 3 seconds per lap..
The dis-advantage to a dog box is it will go into gear......
Unlike a syncro box that has almost a safety feature built in..We have all heard that grinding noise when we try to shift..That is the syncros saying not yet....
Straight cut gears are loud...they make a whinnie sound..
But if you ask me, I will take that sound over a radio anytime...

I hope I did get off the subject to much here.

on the upshifts for a sequential box (are sequential and dog box the same thing?) it is my understainding that you can use a sensor to cut ingition for the upshift an not lift, i think the holinger boxes use a hall effect sensor.

A sequential box uses dog engagement.
You can use a system like Motec that will cut the ignition for a fraction of a second , this will help unload the box.

You can usually hear this as a POP in the exhaust during a shift.
The stuff you see on the TV where the guy reaches over and slaps the shifter is a little mis-leading.Those shifts are usually backed up with bunch of software that matches RPM's and does an ignition cut and so on.
In the real world ,you have to push and pull the shifter pretty hard.

A sequential box is pretty cool, but I tend to lean towards an H pattern box. With a sequential box you have to go through every gear on a down shift.6 . 5 . 4 .and so on.There is no nuetral between gears.

With an H pattern. You can go from 6th to 4th ,and not even vist
5th....Match RPM,s and go.

This is just my opinion.....I could be wrong.
