Hey, the white hood vents reduce drag by .00000000000015 and actually make the car faster with a white NACA (sp?) and white wheels!:crazy2:

I love the 3.55's and short throw shifter. Eibach lowered is good. New set of PS2's were great. But I have to agree the best was Viper Days training...

From reading other threds, it seems that the original air box may be better using Hi Flow filters? Think its something to do with Heat? Cooler air more BHP, Hot air not so good? Still ive got the car booked up soon for a Dyno run :) So hopefully should see some results :eater:

Also Baer 2pice brake rotors. The drilled holes on the rotors showed signs of cracking / fracturing :( It seems that if you intend using the car for track days, slotted rotors are the way to go! The slotted and drilled are more for street use ;)

# 1 WORST MOD- "LOOKS COOL, RUNS HOT"

"Droop-Snoot" chrome intake tubes that hang off the throttle bodies, and have Cone or Canister filters hanging from them. The bending of the airflow approx 70-degrees is the FIRST bad idea. Then, most of the filters hang immediately behind the radiator, and are therefore sucking in only coolant-heated air after it passes thru the 190-235 degree radiator. This "HOT AIR INTAKE KIT" tricks the PCM into thinking you are driving thru DEATH VALLEY on a record-hot day, richens the mixture, fouling plugs and oxy sensors and cats, and making LESS HP. If you have a G2 hood, the NACA is defeated, creating lift and drag, and a dirt, dust and bug-filled trough in the V-10.

But it LOOKS SOoooo **** and COOL....... people BUY it !!!!!!!! {not from PartsRack}

Best GTS mods for me
1. Gear change 3:33 for 17"- 18" wheels or 3:55 for 19" wheels.
2. Cat back exhaust
3. 250hp NOS system

Worst mods (based on cost).
1. For 1998 and above = headers
2. 1.7 roller rockers.

All mods are good, some are just a better value for what is gained

Power:

Greg Good heads....the best mod on my Viper. I picked up 75rwhp from the heads alone without using some huge cam (crower stg 1 it's like a 708).

Show:

19/20 rims. They look perfect on Vipers.

...So what would you recommend Jon? Im writing out my Christmas list.....GEN 2 2000 GTS.....

Most Viper owners want to accelerate quicker. You can add HP (costly) or you can re-gear what you already have. (cheap) GEARS are my #1 bang-for-buck acceleration mod.

We have a flywheel that saves 19 lbs and a clutch kit that saves 9lbs. These mods are a worthy labor and performance improvement as well. Gears, Lighter flywheel and lighter clutch = FASTER ACCELERATION, and (bonus) faster DE-celeration!

Note: SMOOTHE TUBES / FILTERS are the LOWEST COST HP ADDER, BAR NONE !

So for a non supercharged Gen 2 engine, are we saying that the standard air box is best, but add smooth tubes and filters?

Whats Vipair and Vectors? :dunno:

:uk:

PS: Thanks for the response Jon B :2tu:

The 1st thing you do when you get a pet cat/dog is Neuter it

The 1st thing you do when you get a pet viper is the reverse process:
Cat-back exhaust system, or all out with headers and no/hoghflow cats.

What mods work best are the mods that get you closer to where you want to finish up. A 'faster feeling' car is easy with gears. Slightly faster and wayyy better sounding from exhaust. If you're wanting a killer fast car then gears are going backwards and you'll have to change back at about 650rwhp/750bhp. Supercharger is best bang for bucks higher than 600rwhp.

When I listed modifications I forgot to add bigger, lighter brakes. I upgraded to EBC RED brake pads, 14" lighweight front brakes and lighweight 13" rotors for the rear brakes (because I have the 44mm rears with the ABS already). I also have slightly used front lighweight brakes complete for only $600 in the classifieds.

I figured that 20' less stopping distance may save me huge bucks if it prevents 1 small accident. Insurance writes off you car if the clamshell hood is damaged.

Right, if you change the gears, surley this affects the spedo reading? :dunno:

Also, if you no longer have the original air box, is there an alternitive low buck sloution to improve air flow? The original air box is rather heavy!:dunno:

Let's summarize a few comments from Chuck, RTTTTed, and others:

Brains (Viper Days, drving school) and Brakes (more, bigger, better)

You spend all that effort to "go" so you will need something additional to "slow". If you haven't found out yet, which you certainly will after your installing your supercentrifugal-nitrous-ported-headers, that the OEM brakes are marginal!!! They are several choices that work - from least expensive (40mm caliper swap) to bling (Dave's Big Brakes) to race car SRT parts (from JonB.) Decide what you want to pay and how you want it to look, but you'll never, never feel comfortable using all the extra power if you aren't sure where it's going to land.

Just my 0.02, and since I moved up to site supporter, I get to preach like this now. :nono: Kinda fun!

:uk:

1) Our gear swap kits include a pre-calibrated speedo converter needed for 92-02

2) We have a ****, light Carbon-Fibre, NACA-Fitting, airbox/tubes/filters , under $400.

3) Tubes and filters alone make the same HP, $159.

Generally speaking, if improved LAP TIMES are your goal, here is the sequence:

FIRST: Take a drivers School (upgrade to cranial software)
SECOND: Make it TURN better (alignment, suspension, tires)
THIRD: Make it STOP Better (brake components, tires, lighter rotating masses, lighter car.)
FOURTH: Add Power

==========================================

Say what....?

Putting in great set of rollers is on a very short list of things that you get immediate "seat-of-the-pants" performance from. You can feel them, and when you go to work on your rig it only gets better. I'm at a loss as to why its on anybody's sh*t list.

One mod, automatic fan controller, should be on every Viper list.

I must say, there is alot of what I would say is very bad advise on this thread.

1. Plan you project out as far as you can...well beyond what you can afford today.
2. Talk to guys with great running cars.
3. Buy the most expensive a rarest stuff now as with the Viper going out, goes out most of the great mods available now.
