please nobody kill me for saying this. i know i wouldnt want one, but i do know my wife and some other folks would.
if Dodge could put in auto as a option in the Viper i think they could sell way more of them. just thinking of that for a while as maybe a way to help keep making the Viper and help Dodge make some profit on them as well.
i think it would open a lot of oppurtunitys up for the Viper market-thru dodge as well as the aftermarket.

Chrysler is surviving because they listen to their consumers and build cars WE want! There wouldn't be a Viper if WE didn't want it. Chrysler, unlike Ford and Chevy who build cars they want then beat us over the head in an attempt force feed us that is the best thing out there, actually has their finger on the pulse of their consumers. I will never buy a GM product ever! donations are always welcome.:D

They would also sell a lot of Vipers if Dodge put a four-cylinder in them. But then it wouldn't be a Viper.

I usually want to be a glass half full kinfd iof person so don't take this as me not being positive, but the biggest diffirence this time is the federal government is involved more than ever before. I know they had some oversite in the eighties but now they have a know nothing "car czar" (thank you United Socialist States) telling the auto makes what to build. Hopefully Chrysler and Ford /GM for that matter have the "wherewithall" to be able to build the the cars the gov't wants AND the cars we want.

The only "auto" that Viper folks at Dodge should take a look at is a paddle shifted manual sequential. You know, the gearbox most of the 21st century race cars have. Put it into the ACR -- it's a barely street legal racecar anyway. :)

Keep the regular Viper a 6 or 7 MT. As one of the few female Viper drivers, an AT in a Viper is a complete travesty. If women want to play with the big girls, learn to drive an MT! :drive:

It's an interesting experiment.

In Europe the government taxes are crazy - the cost of fuel at the pump is 2X or 3X as in the US and property taxes on engines bigger than 2.0L are high. It drives consumers to fuel efficient cars (and the taxes collected then go to... where?

In the US, the government will dictate fuel efficient cars (because Americans can't figure out to buy fuel efficient cars when gas costs a lot?) Meanwhile there are no added fuel-related taxes... yet.

Either way will work; it's the sudden nature that hurts. The comparison ends when fuel taxes are increased.

If manual sequential were only that easy Tere... I'm staring down a knee replacment, after driving my car I can hardly walk for 2 days... :omg:
BUT, There's nothing like driving a Viper, the pain is still worth it to me :drive:

I've located the parts to make my car a paddle shifted, clutchless manual sequential. But the company that makes the parts, won't give up the software... If anyone knows a software engineer, willing to take on a project that would be awesome.

I know this is not for everyone, but for me... Losing the clutch means being able to drive & keep my favorite car.

Auto's are not that easy to put into our cars. They have to cut the cr*p out of the tunnel to make them fit. In order to do this the entire car would have to be restructured.

Auto = really bad thing to do to a great car

Juli, honey... You are killin me.:D

Most paddle shifters are hooked to auto boxes,(unless it is a 250K car) you don't want to see a Viper with an automatic in it do you?

I know that you like the paddle shifters in you auto Vette, but it would be blasphemy in the Viper:eater:

Kala you have the rite idea! Can one of the tuners out there help you with the software? What would the parts cost to do that?

What I'm trying to do uses my own Viper Tremec T-56 transmission. Not an automatic.

I'm working with some of the best tuners... I'm all the research, and from what I've found so far, it IS possible to do... Lots of people here on VCA have been so helpful, getting me to this point. Hopefully it will end with a great mod for my car!

i am not trying to degrade the viper in any way, but i was throwing ideas out there, as i would love to see dodge succeed, and continue to produce the Viper and make it a viable part of their business. we know companies and business change and evolve, wouldnt it be great to keep the Viper?
i know i was happy when they brought back the challenger, it evolved and came as an auto and 6 speed and allowed some new people to become dodge owners and helped dodge sell some more cool cars
i know several handicapped individuals who would love to own a viper, and an auto of some sort would allow that. its no different than making an acr, coupe and vert. should everyone be forced to take an acr since its the epitomy of viper dna-but a standard coupe is too soft? not everyone wants to roadrace their viper, or has the ability too.
some of the fastest vipers i know of -- 7-9 second 1/4 miler vipers with autos. does that make them any less of a viper?? talk to a few dealership owners and see if they agree it woudlnt spark some more sales and interest in a viper.
are ferraris and lambos any less exotic when they have paddle shifters?
tell that to chevy who has thousands of vette owners with autos. would i own a vette-no, but its our main competitor and its been around since the 1950's-because the offered it in various forms for various owners.
i love our vipers and the elite status they have, but i would like to see them stick around too. if that means offering some things i wouldnt go for, so be it, its called an OPTION, no different than a color or aero package.
if it sold so more vipers, and made the comoany profitable and kept them around, i am all for it.

Pleasant, unpleasant...it doesn't matter. He is right. I'm sure if we all hold hands around the campfire and sing happy-happy-joy-joy songs Chrysler will come out stronger than ever.

Glad to oblige ya~! :D :2tu:
I am all for Kala's idea...there are others here who would LOVE paddle-shifters in their Viper, for all kinds of reasons...but no, not to CHANGE the Viper, as Kala said.
I'm ALL FOR IT...hope that the software CAN be written. GO KALA! :drive: ~juli

Thanks Juli
I'm fully prepared to get flamed for this, but I'd rather mod my car, than do a permanent titanium mod to my knee... :omg:

Believe me, if not for a necessity, I would have never embarked on this headache of an idea...

I wanted to have it completed for Viper Days, but it's looking like thats not going to be possible without the software.

CALLING ALL COMPUTER GEEKS! :lmao::lmao:

Paddles are fine if you're willing to pay for it to do yourself. Cool project. It's America. You can do whatever you want with your posession... Even white hood vents! But don't insist a product change it's identity for your own demands.

i didnt say lower the price and qaulity, thats what a lesser engine would do. the think tank so far hasnt done so good in keeping the Viper alive, so i guess smart ass comments will do it.

I don't think any of us wants to change the Viper's identity at all. I still think we're all mostly in agreement that the Viper stay the RAWBEAST that it is. Like you said, whatever anyone wants to do with their own possession is their right. I didn't say to make it an AUTOMATIC (like my paddle-shifting Vette is) tranny. Let's see if someone can do this with the software while keeping the Tremec...the logistics blow my mind~! :eater::eater: ~juli

juli, why did you buy that style of vette? would you have bought a Viper if it was equipped the same way? i am not asking this in an argumentative way whatsoever, just interested.:)

UGH, sorry about the cast...hope your arm is healing well?
I got that Vette ONLY because of the paddle-shifters. I also have an issue with my left foot...medical issues have rendered that foot numb (permanent damage). So, hmmm...if a VIPER were made with paddle-shifters would I have chosen that car...DAMN STRAIGHT!!!! :drive::drive: In NO WAY do I EVER compare the Corvette I have to the Viper...they do not compare in ANY way. The Vette is easier for me to drive, and fun and fast...but no, it's NOT A VIPER. I make that clear.
Thanks for asking...not inflaming at all, in fact, most knew here I was curious about the paddle-shifters before I got the Corvette...and no, I don't belong to Vette clubs, THIS is the ONLY CAR CLUB I belong to. Get well soon so you can DRIVE! ~juli
