Brake Ducting Question

I finally got around to installing my Roe front fascia duct kit that's been collecting dust in the garage. With the front bumper cover off I figured now is a great time to run some brake cooling hose to the front brakes. I'm planning on drilling 3" holes on either side of the radiator to accommodate naca ducts and 3" brake cooling hose. I just want to verify these are the correct locations. I've placed cold, frosty Blue Moon's to indicate the areas in question. :) It would be the area directly behind the beer. Is this correct?

Those are the same locations my brake ducts are in. You'll find that the ROE cooling kit comes with vertically mounted sheet metal that will interfere with a funnel for your brake ducts. I ended up cutting my funnel to fit. I'd like to find a funnel that isn't cut, because I'll bet I'm losing some airflow to the brakes from the cut.

I didn't install the sheet metal for the Roe yet as I'm waiting for some fasteners from McMaster (Thanks Dave, I love that site.) but I did heat up the plastic air damn piece and bent it down so it doesn't interfere with the duct opening. I used a creme brulee torch for that. :D If the sheet metal interferes with the airflow for the brake ducting I'll try to work around it. I'm at a stand still until my McMaster order shows up on Thursday. BTW, thanks Dave for posting the stuff you order from McMaster...that site has been an absolute blessing especially when it comes to fasteners. Dave, question: In one of your posts regarding the roe duct, you mentioned something about replacing the xmas tree fasteners used to hold the fascia with 5/16" (I believe) boby bolts. How did you thread that bumber refinforcement in the pic, rivet nuts? The two xams fasteners located under the headlights took most of the time in removing the bumper cover. The bumber cover itself was like 5 minutes but the those xams tree fasteners were about a 6 pack.

hey Tony yes that is where my mechanic drilled the holes:)

he kept saying it was too bad he couldn't just run it through the light holes, they were the perfect size for the ducts haha!

love the ducts. stock rotors cracked after 1 day at the track hahaa.

I had some Carbotech full race pads and I think they just couldn't handle it. I got used to the vette, I ran race pads and stock rotors for years.

Looking for a big brake pkg now

Did not do the 2 under the headlights. And as of the last couple of years, I only have the center top screw and the 4 underneath. Tested at well over the speed limit...

I remove the fascia with the front bumper reinforcement still attached. You have to remove the rectangular blockoff plate ahead of the airbox to get to some of the mounting bolts.

Isn't not doing that though, the key to not having to realign your fascia every time you put it back on? Or does that method work too?

I had the cone ducting recently installed and noticed that the duct, as it is installed is pusing up on the bottom part of the fascia. Specifically there is a lip on the bottom opening of the fascia that is riding up on the duct. I found another post in which the person ended up cutting off this lip. Does anyone know if the ducts can be moved so that I am not forced to modify the fascia?

I used the 'cone cooking kit' with the air deflectors, and we didn't see a way around not creating a hole for the ducts. I saw a huge difference in brake fade during my runs, without them I could make it through 2/3 of a lap then not be able to brake:rolaugh:

I think my cracked rotor was due to a 'too aggressive' pad for the stock rotors. I know the comp coupe drivers use them and most racing leagues I run with for HPDE's.

Car is a little dirty its on the lift right now gettign ready for some hi flow cats to be put on.

When you say "hole" you mean that you cut that lip off of the inside of the fascia?

I hope you didn't take off the front end just to install Roe's cooler, I ddin't have to....I figure you are doing way more than that.

Andrew, if I was just doing the Roe duct I would do the install without removing the fascia. But I figured I might as well do the brake ducting and try to fix the "Frumpy Fascia".

Thanks for the up close and personal pics of the duct work. :D When you routed the brake duct hose through the driver's side, did you horns get in the way of the hose? I'm think I'm going to move the horns to the front bumper somewhere and maybe upgrade them to something WAY MORE louder.

I don't find myself taking the fascia off very often - maybe once every 2-3 years, or longer. (nor have I stooped to painting my hood air extractors white) I always have an extra pair of hands to help get the alignment right when I do.

If you track the car a lot, I recommend removing and cleaning the oil cooler, radiator and condenser core with some frequency. The fins get junked up with all kinds of rubber, sand, bugs, leaves and cigarettes that rob your cooling efficiency. Pressure blasting them from the front only serves to bury the stuff even deeper.

I've been looking at doing the cone kit but we can get unexpected freak downpours here in Colorado.

Thoughts?

I suppose there is a chance of more water getting to the disc but I can't imagine it being a significant amount to cause failure. Driving through a deep puddle would probably cause the pads to slip more than water in the ducts.

Anyways, if you are gonna track your Viper this should be one of the first mods. I wish I would have done it before anything else. I probably would have saved a gazillion dollars in pads, rotors and fluid.

Will those hose connections point up with the air entry hole in the bottom of the fascia, or are you aiming the opening forward meaning the hose connection goes to the rear like in the array of other pics.

Edit... Just went to their website and that piece really isn't a NACA duct. Just a duct. I'll presume therefore it will point forward.
