JonB,
Should I also get 2 'Drycharger'air filter wraps, in the event that I have to ride in the rain one day, as it happenned a few times on scheduled VCA meetings last summer.
Red would look good, I'll give you a call.

I just installed the K&N cold air intake. It is pretty simple to install and took about 2 hrs to do it at home (need a screw driver and a wrench).

It does look great, but I do not notice ANY change in power or sound. I have not done a before and after dyno. I will be doing a dyno after I install my headers.

It is much heavier than the stock intake. It weights 17.4 pounds (per package insert); stock air intake weights 7.5 lbs.

For the price, I do not recommend doing this modification. If you like the look of it, then go for it.

WOW 10 pounds heavier doesn't sound like a very good mod to me:omg:

He lost two horsepower but as you mentioned that could simply be a result of heat. I dynoed my car and lost 12 between second the third run.

2whp....could that be considered dyno standard deviation. 2whp seems rather insignificant.

2 whp less at peak, and 6 whp less in the mid range. car ran richer by 0.3 (11.2 stock Vs 10.9 K&N)
I dynod the viper 3 times, got same power # (531 and 530), installed the filter while on the dyno, took 3 min, the car cooled down more then it did between the first runs, ran it again 2 more times, got the 2 whp lower and 6-8 whp in the mid range (528s).

The car ran richer, so it will have to lose power on an NA engine i guess.

I did leave it on.... will drive the car around some and try again. as i did not give the ECU any time to re-learn, not even sure if it will make a difference. We will see..

KN will tell you, the Typhoon and FIPK kits achieve their HP when the car is in motion. So a static dyno run with a floor fan cannot duplicate any force-feed of airvlow into the airbox.

ie when the G4 kt was first tested at a well-respected 1992-2010 tuner, the HP was very real...until the hood was closed. ****. Gone.

$525 VCA
$500 Venom

THANKS

Wouldn't this have the same effect even with the stock box especially since it is a ram-air style air box?

the stock system is efficient enough i believe.

a drop-in K&N or Green Filter (may try this next) will do best IMHO.

We include a set!

Factually, **** Sells. This Aluminum box is as much a dress-up item as a HP adder. If you can feel 12 HP on top of 605, you have a better butt that I. K+N claims the HP, and respected dynos have proven it in static tests....hood open.

[Dozens of customers have bought the off-brand Gen 1-2 "Hot Air Induction Kits" with their **** cones, despite our warnings of HP LOSS. We WONT sell those.....] but the G3 and G4 K+N is a valid upgrade on 2 counts.... but dont bet your pink slip!
