You got it! I needed a little lifting help to get the tranny mount into place and get the bolts in. I didnt have a tranny jack so I used what I had. You'll also notice my fancy Craftsman toolbox/engine stand, as my REAL engine stand wouldnt hold it, and the smaller toolbox/tranny stand. :lmao...
Here is a timelapse video of a Viper GTS engine build from the shortblock up and installed into the chassis. Everything went pretty smooth except the oil filter seal poping out when first started. You see the oil all over the floor at the end of the video. I guess it serves me right for using a...
After more thought, altering these wheels probably wont suite me. However $500 for the set seems off. One can't even buy half of one new wheel for that. I'd as soon melt them down into some very nice coasters. :headbang:
Wow, thanks Robzilla. That does look a lot better. Decisions, decisions. I just need to decide on anodizing these black or picking up some Iforged 5 spokes, or maybe some CCW's.
Anyone want to trade? :)
I picked this car up with these Asanti wheels and they arnt my style. Can someone change them to black? I thought of having them anodized or powder coated black, but not sure if it will do enough for them to suit me. If I dont like the look, Ill try to sell them or trade for other wheels...
Hello John. Thanks for your time again. I really appreciate the info you were able to give to a cold calling stranger. :)
The damage is only two spun rod bearings. My plan is to take 10 thou off of the crank journals and replace the two rods. That along with new rings and the standard engine...
OH NO!!!!!! Benny Hill AND the girls for the install. That would be way, way too much. If I could just get rid of the wife for the weekend, hmmmmm....... :headbang:
Man your not kidding. They definately do not fit my redneck style. They were on the car when I bought it. They are Asanti wheels that I need to further identify. I have looked at the pics on Asanti's website and it looks like they run about $1200 each new. I need to get them sold and replaced...
I picked up a 97 GTS last month with a blown engine and filmed the removal and tear down to the short block. Its at the machine shop now. I hope to have better camera angles to the install when the engine comes back. I hope you all enjoy. It takes a minute to load the flash video so be a bit...
I ended up leaving the bell housing on and removing the tranny. It came right out. I didn’t follow the advice on pulling the shifter and now I get to replace the boot. The engine is out as well, which was the point of the whole thing. The bell housing is still tight with all of the...
I am pulling the tranny from a 97 GTS. Are the 6 bolts in the picture the only ones that hold the engine and tranny together? I have the bolts out but the tranny still seems firmly attached to the engine. By the way, the tranny mount is removed as well as the driveshaft. ;)
Thanks
Whats a short block run? Ill check on the machining prices and compare when I get the engine out and apart. Would be nice to keep the serial numbers correct though.
Thanks
I pulled more rod and main caps and they look fine. Either one rod journal was starved for oil for one reason or...
He had a shop pull the oil pan and quoted me that two rods were "broken", so I expected carnage. The engine will still be pulled and fully gone over. The crank will need turned and everything else inspected as well as repairing or replacing the rods.
My first Viper was picked up last week with a blown motor. The owner said that it was run out of oil and that it had two broken rods and needed a cam. He wasnt knowledgable about engines just talking to him, and I figured worst case I have to buy an engine. I finally get it into the garage...
Ill get pics from inside the trailer its on and post this evening. The plan is to video the entire removal and rebuild then time lapse it. I love those kind of videos.
This is a very encouraging forum. Thank you.
Jason
Ok, im a proud new Viper owner. Overall the car looks good so far. I cant wait to get it on the lift to look better underneath. It'll be a month before I pull the motor to see what kind of carnage is in there. It came in at $18k so I feel as though I got a deal. Now the fun begins.
Woohoo!
The blown motor doesnt bother me at all. I have my own garage lift, tools and have built my own engines for years. Its the rest of the car that I need to Viper comminuty's help with. I picked up my first 6-speed Supra for $6k under book because it had a blown engine. Took it home and found it...
Im going to seal the deal on a site unseen (besides pictures) Red 97 GTS. It has a blown motor. Besides the motor, what should I be looking for that may spoil the deal? The car looks good in the pics and has a clear carfax and title.
Thanks all!
My buyers guide is on the way. I have sit in a Viper before at a show in Carlisle, PA but dont know anyone to take a ride. Im in south central PA if anyone wants to offer. :)
Thanks for the information everyone.
Jason
The last two days were spent stuck in the garage pulling mods off of the Supra. Seems like it took a lot longer to put them on. :) Ill have a few weeks getting it back to stock and then for sale it goes.
I have found a few nice Gen 2 GTS's for sale in the $35k range. The one is silver with...
Hello all. I am the current owner of a 94 6 speed Supra with 76mm single, fuel, and all of the associated goodies. Ive run a best 10.94@133mph on 93 octane and dyno'd 720hp on C16. I have much appriciated the looks of the Viper since its release. I now see that the prices have come down to the...
