I think that I could have bought a 1600mi 93 RT10 for $41,000 several years ago when their value was high.

Gen 1s aren't too popular because they have no sidewindows, door handles, etc.

There are several Gen2s for sale with about 20K for the area of $35,000US.

Right, but some poeple dont care about that stuff.
Look at the market for cobra replicas:)

And many of those people like me grew up Loving vipers dreaming about owning one some day. I am in the minority that got mine young. BUT i can assure you that there are MANY Viperfinatics from my generation(and younger) that will be looking for vipers in 20years when they hit midlife crisis, Just like when the Babyboomers got older and started buying up all these cars from the 70's that they grew up wanting.

My prediction is that in 20yrs the Gen1's will be selling for atleast 40% more than the current market. Mark my words;)

Who knows, you might be right. My only point was that currently a Gen 2 is worth several thousand more than a Gen 1 and the GTS is worth a thousand or two more than an RT10. And ... some (desperate?) GTSs are selling for mid $30s right now. I saw Gen 1s for sale in the high 20s before I bought my most recent GTS.

sounds like that yellow 95 sold too high like most things do on that auction. dang nice looking car though.

I thought it was also interesting that immediately following the Viper, a '94 ZR-1 also went for $35K.

I'll bite! I am one of those guys who doesn't need windows or a roof and remember the buzz created by the first vipers... Still an awsome car and it's good to see the value plunge tapering off.

I own a 95 R/T 10, 17000 kms.I would not sell mine for 50K, I love the car, bought it new, Don't care if it has windows or not as it is a gen I and it is one of the coolest rides out there, I own a Gen III and a GenIV and I admit the car does not get the use it should but it is all a ride of it's own.:D:D

I think a Gen I viper will be a car that will eventually (5-10 years) start to appreciate in value. You know what they say- When the top goes down the price goes up.

The Gen1s are the original and still the only american v10 Supercar. If you have a good one it is sure to appreciate. I don't think the lack of roll up windows will hurt them much at all... If anything the non a/c cars will be worth a little less. The Viper is about raw visceral power and a Gen1 is the poster child for that.

Money and credit are tight... Big dollar toys are way undervalued... Be happy you aren't sitting on something like a twin screw luxury sport fishing yacht...

The early Vipers are rare unique cars with a wow factor second to none...

Back in the 70s I had two of the most raw visceral motorcycles you could buy... The kawasaki H1 500 and H2 750 widow maker 2 stroke triples... Good examples sell for 5 to 10 times the original price now based on their crude nasty image...

That car has some stories to tell. The 1985 Ecklers special dash, the missing trim pieces where the windows attach to the doors, the just driven in the rain with the top down detail job on the interior, aftermarket stereo. I think that guy hit a home run ball, heck that was top dollar for that car a few years ago.

Some of you guys are taking me out of context. I'm not a vette guy. ALL Vipers are popular.

I meant Not as popular as Gen2, Gen3 and Gen4s.

I meant it as a relative comment. Gen 1s would be worth more if they were more popular (than Gen 2, 3 and 4s).

If the only they ever built was a Gen 1 I'm sure I'd love it! But, since I own 2 GTSs it should be obvious what my favourite is.

Now I know I have to have one, windows and top doesn't matter, just love the raw feeling of these first gen cars :D

heck, not like i'd drive it much or at all in the rain so the top and windows would always be off :)

Not sure what climate you live in, but when you start to shop for a Viper the Gen 1 isn't very practical as a driving car in mnay places as too many areas (especailly at lower altitudes) get more than 60% rain or snow days. When driving NOW, I experienced 90F and blistering sunshine in Az. and Cal. for a week (it rained for 3 weeks before I got there). Then from the middle of Nevada all the way to Nimpo Lake I experienced 9 snow storms and Blizzards, rain storms in Seattle and Vancouver then more rain and snow all the rest of the way home. Gen 1 would have needed an enclosed trailer to do the trip and No driving.

Friend and fellow VCA member drove his 95 RT10 to our Hell's Gate event and when he attended the Kelowna Wine Tour he was forced to take his Z06 (embarrassing?) because he has a $15,000 stereo in his 95 and the roof leaks. Can't have any rain touch the stereo. Also can't go to weekend events except for ones where there is a security guard to watch his car (no lock).

But for a close to home and only sunny days the Gen 1 is great car. They are also great for Museums and collectors as there wasn't a lot of Gen 1s built.

I agree with that statement whole heartedly. The one odd thing I have noticed about the Viper community is how much owners talk down about other generations of the Viper.

The Gen 1 is the original and all of the quirks are what make it so cool to own in my eyes. It's not the first Viper I bought, but I would love to own one someday.

The Gen 1 Vettes are kind of special too, and they don't have all the updates that the new ones have. They are worth slightly more though;)

Just something about the Gen that started it all.:2tu:

Probably the Gen 1s will exceed all the other Generations as they were the original AND they made less of them. Although they don't have much of a race history (GrandPrix) their history is that they started it all. Definitely the most collectable of all the Vipers?

If I was a Museum (serious money car collector) I would try to have a 92 or 93 RT10 as a display and then all the other Generations after that - but they were not a driver car. So it's most likely that a Gen 1 car will get less miles than the rest and be worth more money when they become older.

I truly do not understand why Museums don't all have Vipers in their Collections. Ferrari, Maseratis and Jags, but no Vipers??? I search every Museum I enter for a Viper and am still looking. Vegas Imperial Casino had 3-5 Porsches and No Vipers? Unbalanced. Prosches are kinda boring because they pretty much have to be a Porsche expert to know the differences. Why doesn't every good Museum have an 08 ACR with video from the N. Ring?

Perhaps the BJ auction selling Vipers every auction is indicative that Museums are beginning to buy Vipers for display?

"Those things are pure heat. I was just down in Gatlinburg and saw 2 of them a 92 and a 06 SRT10 and each time I saw them I just stood there in complete awe and pools of drool coming out of my mouth. LOL You need to shoot some vids of it so I can drool over this one as well. :)"

Sort of indicates the public viewpoint and he left this comment on a pic of a Gen 2.

I bought my Gen 1 because it was the cheapest Viper I could get into. I finally got the original tires off of it and now I'm not fish-tailing down the hwy. This car is great! I can't wait to put some 120 spokes on it and a pair of 15" subs in the trunk. I'm hoping to afford some hydraulics this year....


...If dipsticks keep snapping up these Gen1's because they are the cheapest Viper on the planet or so they can impress their friends (or what ever) then they will continue to be wrapped around trees and the value of mine will skyrocket! At least they are not stringing the Gen1's along like they have done with the Gen4's....

...but I'm not a true Viper guy... I also own a Razor scooter.

All Gens of the Viper are great, but some gens are more desireable than other. OH yeah Vipers are not in the museums because though they have a great racing history, it is tiny compared to the other mentioned vehicles.

Shelby has a tiny racing history - as does Cunningham with his Hemi powered race cars, but they're too rare to find in mnay museums. Compared to those guys Dodge Viper won a lot more races until the 40% intake restrictor rules. The first (no intake restrictor) reminded me of the old Daytona 500s and Superbirds before they got banned for being too fast in NHRA history.

The history of the Gen 1 was that it was a superior way to build cars and the first car build of this type in North America.

Guess the Museums are just a little slow getting on the ball so far.

There is a lot of "hype" at those auctions, but they are definetely fun to watch. However, I did see a beautiful blue 1996 viper with a special paint design on the sides (the car looked brand new) and the engine was equipped with twin turbos (you could have eaten off the engine it was so clean) go for 50k which I thought was a give away price for that car.

Anything is worth only what someone is willing to pay

Wow, the emotions run with this car....

I am guilty of adding many, many, many miles to three of them...... hahahahaaaaa, and I loved all of them I may add...... Heck, I'm thinking seriously of buying another one. These cars are the best deal in town IMO....

have three gen 1 and original 92 owner still have it ...the raw power of these early ones cant be matched.. i would never think of selling them
