The Carolina's Region VCA held its 3rd annual dyno day this past Saturday. We had a great turnout with 10 Vipers dynoing. The results were interesting to say the least.

True Blue Performance, a Ford performance shop close to Raleigh, hosted us again. They have a great facility and are very hospitable to our Vipers. We ran there last year as well (shortly after they opened) so we had last year's results to compare against.

So while we didn't dyno any supercharged, turbocharged, or nnitrous cars we did post some very interesting numbers. And we kept accurate records of mods and milage of all of the cars that ran to make comparisons between cars more accurate.

Here are the tyno results for all 3 runs for all 10 Vipers in a spreadsheet format. And yes, all numbers are SAE corrected....

Our humble '96 GTS equipped only with K&N's, Mopar smooth tubes, '98+ exhaust manifolds, hi-flo cats, and a Borla cat back exhaust put down 454 HP and 504 lb-ft of torque on its 3rd pull. It was was king of the dyno for the day, never mind that it had fewer mods than some of other cars.

And note that our club member Jesse's 2001 put down 433 HP and 477 lb-ft of torque with only K&N's and smooth tubes!! Not exactly what I would call a creampuff!! Credit for this car being so strong may be due to Jesse's meticulous (actually anal!!) approach to break in - he was very careful to break the car in per the recommendations...

Needless to say we had tons of people hanging out to watch all of the fun. True Blue and the club bought lunch and provided drinks for everyone who was hanging out.

A great time of dynoing and bench racing was had by all....

I should add that this car picked up 17 HP and 24 lb-ft from the previous year on the same dyno. The change?? We added '98+ stock tubing exhaust manifold in place of our stock cast iron ones and hi-flo cats in place of the stock ones.

We made this change primarily for the weight reduction - the manifold change saved 25 lbs while the hi-flo cats saved an additional 12 lbs versus the stock cats.

So while this change is a little involved a gain of 17 HP and 24 lb-ft along with a weight savings of 37 lbs is not a bad deal for less than $500 plus some labor...
