Here's a scenario: Magna buys Jeep, Hyundai buys Chrysler and Chery buys Dodge.

The Dodge Viper will henceforth be called the Chery Viper. It will be manufactured in China using recycled steel and seat 4 in a 2+2 configuration. Under the hood, a powerful 225hp V6 will transfer power to the wheels via a 5-speed autostick. Options will include a Luxury package and a Sport package. Rebates will include a 10% discount at any Walmart product that is made in China. Performance numbers have not been made public yet but AutoWeek estimates 0-60mph in the single digits. :D

this is all the fault of the germans. they ruined the VIPER (if you think Gen3 VIPERs are so great there are plenty of unwanted 05 and 06 models waiting for you) and they pushed failure projects like the Crossfire. now there's a front wheel drive jeep on the road.

yeah, great job frankfurters.

well, I would be possibly hitting the classifieds if I were in the Dodge group. Seriously though, look at the company in 1994 and look at it now...

Stop ragging on the Gen3 Vipers. :nono: I had a 94 RT10 and the Gen3 is far superior to the old ones. Loved the 94 when I had it but would not ever take it back over my 06. When I traded for the new one there were several Gen1 cars that were unsold also probably because they were all traded for the much better Gen3 cars. Don't get me wrong having any Viper is great but some time it is the economics of it and they are unable to afford a newer Viper. :(

Does anyone know how much direct input Daimler personel had on the Gen3 Viper? I don't think its sucha black and white issue. I mean, its not like Deiter Zeitch (sp?) was the director of PVO! The Germans part in the Gen3 design probably went more like-

Viper Team- "Ok, we evolved the Viper to this new model for your approval"
Daimler brass- "Looks good, now just make sure to offer it in a plethora of Mamba variations"

It's a trying time for us all... let's not start beating each other up. The only people at fault here are the krauts at Daimler. Bring Chrysler back to America, dammit!

I have the feeling they will not bail if they "don't meet the reserve". All the DC guys are doing is demoralizing the workforce by putting it up for sale, and then they won't pull the trigger and sell.

Smart companies just find bidders and do it. These guys were looking for scapegoats for the economic problems of the company. BLAME THE AMERICANS.....

but just dont sell them for a loss.

my point was the VIPER is not what it used to be, not the new ones anyway. never said it wouldn't outperform a GenI or II, those facts are unrelated. there's a reason I don't have one and its not money.

just my opinion.

I'll throw this out: if we didn't live in a socialist country that takes 30+% of my income and redistributes it to the people that don't work for a living and don't pay anywhere near their share of the burden I'd have even more cash to throw at cars. if the feds inacted the FAIR TAX tomorrow I promise you car sales would improve and we'd all have more money. we could all buy new cars with a fraction of the money we'd save in capital gains taxes.

Viper not what it used to be... I hope not... I don't want to get in that stupid argument about the different Gens I love all the Vipers. The fact that we all have a Viper is great lets just be glad of that no matter what year your Viper is. :2tu: :usa:

Amen! I couldn't agree more with the above statement. Between the non-working class, the immigrants, and the members of Congress who promise them medical care and money to live on, the only people who are suffering are the middle class who pay more taxes on the dollar than anyone else. Throw in the Estate Tax, which is 45% on anything left to you by someone who passes away, among other rediculous taxes, and it makes me sick. The taxes have got to stop.

Ok, I'm off my soap box, now someone call Lamborghini and ask them to buy the rights to the Viper :headbang: :D

I won't argue that it seems the Diamler part has not helped the company but the Viper program still rocks (even with some new stuff I'm not too crazy about).

The reasons for all those SRTs on the lot has to do with the economy more than anything. Our precious GenIIs were supported by an unbelievably fast growing economy, but they too would be tough sells today.

Having Wolfgang back would not be such a bad thing...

Cerberus manages over $17 billion of investments and recently led a consortium of banks that bought 51 percent of GM’s finance arm GMAC for the not inconsiderable sum of $14 billion. Cerberus made the critical play of hiring former DaimlerChrysler bossWolfgang Bernhardto help its bid.
