AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Chrysler LLC says it has restarted a small factory that makes the Viper sports car.
The Conner Avenue assembly plant in Detroit is the first to begin making vehicles since May 4 when the company shut down all of its plants after it filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
Spokeswoman Dianna Gutierrez says she is not sure when other factories will come back on line. Chrysler executives have said they would restart a majority of the plants by the last week in June.
The company emerged from bankruptcy protection on June 9. The Viper plant restarted on Monday.

That is a very good sign! Viper is their Halo car. There is going to be a lot of attention on what direction the new Chrysler/Fiat is going to go in.

If the intent was to kill-off Viper, they would not want to bring media attention to this. This is a bold PR move.

A bad sign would have been seeing hundreds of little Fiat 500's coming off the gang-planks of cargo ships with magnetic pizza delievery signs on their roofs.

This is awesome news indeed, let's hope that there will eventually be good news for the long term as well when certifications for the current car will come to an end.

The early move to reopen the Conner Ave. Plant might just be because there is a back order of Vipers to be assembled while the inventory of other Chrysler models is stacked up around the country. Nevertheless, it's great news!

It's more likely due to the Viper being a positive cash flow for New Chrysler. Compared to its other lines, the Viper operation is a cash cow at this point.
