Janni gave you the correct info, and they occasionally come on the open market, but keep in mind, no title, no registration, no vins, etc., so financing , if necessary would need to be done through conventional means. Of course no prop. taxes, no insurance, since it is not street legal. Once on the track, though , all your other concerns will go away --- great machine for the money, especially compared to what else is on the market.

I know for a fact that you could get them licensed in Kansas as a kit car. Let me also state that while I too think it is an incredible car, it is a race car all the way. No interior to speak off, unless you count plywood. Plastic back window and no side windows. Would barely clear a garden snake, let alone a speed bump.

All that said, I suspect it would draw more attention on the road than any Viper out there. Even the yellow ones. ;) Not to mention crushing that new Z06 in short order.

Comp coupe for a street car? Full roll cage, No side windows, no air, no creature comforts of any kind, hard race seats, no stereo, no insulation (LOUD), and the list goes on and on. I think it would make a horrible car to try to convert considering the cost that needs to go into it to make it work. You would need to lift it to drive it on normal roads, and that will take away from its crazy good looks.

If it had all that stuff, I would sell my track viper and my SRT10 and buy a comp coupe and use it for street and track.

I'd like to see it done though.

To be honest with you guys, I am considering the new Z06. It will make a fun car with every creature comfort I could want, and I actually like the way it looks (not that far off from the SRT-10 styling in my opinion.)

Good thinking Chad

Can't be any more raw than some of the Cobra road legal racers out there

As for ground clearance - as promised to Heffner - I'm going to drop by and give Jason the contact for that air suspension specialist. It might not be what you want - but this cutting edge technology will definitely offer you several tunable options on the fly - you'd be able to adjust spring rates, dampening rates and ride height all on the fly... they are VERY interested in adding a "drag race" setup to their option list. Their track times are dropping 1.5 seconds a lap on air suspension over factory road suspension - that is on a BMW and on an STI WRX - both quick circuit cars stock.

as for missing interior parts - trust me there's 100 people around who can build anything you want and make it look factory.... people are so tunnel visioned they can't see that the possibilities are endless.

thank God there are some visionaries out there. This should be good Chad - hope the next one will have FRONT MOUNTED turbos.... that'll free up a huge amount of power... not that you're lacking in it :D there's just more to be had why waste it :D

No, I think people are r-e-a-l-i-s-t-i-c and don't generally have $100 bills sprouting from their nether regions. I already looked into the possibility of getting one licensed as a kit car in Kansas - no problem. However, besides the $130K you will drop for your "kit car", you would probably drop another $40K to make it seem even close to a street car (windows, interior, etc.). You might as well buy a Mosler kit car which will beat a Comp Coupe in pretty much every category (0-60 in 3.13, 1/4 in 11.02 @ 127 MPH, and 1980 pounds dry). Rest assured that I am as loyal to the Viper nameplate as anyone, and I also love the looks of the Comp Coupe. If I had a lottery winning under my belt then I would certainly be the first to try to screw with a Comp Coupe on the street. Let's face it, if you have $170K to drop on a whim, then the possibilities truly are endless. For those of us with even a hint of a budget, it is called reality.

I am willing to bet that you could contact AUTOFORM and they could build you a GTS-R or Comp Coupe body kit that you could slap onto an SRT-10 frame, for waaaaaaaaaaaay less money. You could then turbo that thing and have all the features of the SRT-10 with the near look of a comp coupe. Just my 2 cents. I belive Autoform was looking for somebody with some $$$ to do this to create the 1st one, and then they could sell the kit afterwards. Give them a call Chad.

There are several companies doing that exact same thing as we speak and given the "****" that DC unveiled at the autoshows I suspect that the kits will fly off the shelf :)

I can say that if there was a resonably priced comp coupe body kit that could slap onto my SRT-10, I would do it in a second. Bye Bye convertible -- Hello Comp Coupe with nice interior, satellite radio and nav system, A/C, etc.

Chad, call autoform and talk to the owner. He should be able to hook you up. I spoke to him a few months ago about this.

The problem with Autoform is they use fibreglass not carbon fibre. Their kits weigh an enormous amount - so detract from the performance of the vehicle.

If you took all your autoform parts off your GTS and weighed them you would be shocked.

real advancement is in carbon fiber and there are people good at it. A rowing skiff that is around 50 feet long is light enough for one man to pick up and hoist onto his shoulder with ease - yet it is stiff enough for 8 strong 220lb men to put their backs, legs and arms into and row for Olympic gold or the training hard yards - without a crack or fatigue.

99% of the car people are 10 years behind... you can't buy teh good stuff at any shop... it's all in who you know.... hint - follow the America's cup yachting or rowing skiff manufacture and make some friends.

Thanks f the pros and cons guys.

I still think that the wow factor would be worth it. And that I would NEVER, EVER see another one while driving.

Snapping some SRT interior in shouldn't be that bad. It would probably stay without a radio and A/C though to keep the pounds down.

Believe me, this car would be too much fun to roll up the windows or turn on the radio! And with a boost controller ranging between 1000 and 2000 hp, it would be a lot of fun!

Thanks and keep the ideas (and CC's for sale) coming.

Chad
