it shouldn't anymore than a normanl dead battery, changing flash program must be done with some special tools, lack of power shouldn't affect it

If it did, then the flash would be gone by the time the ECU got shipped to you.

The memory modules in these things are similar to the ones in PC's. I'd hate to have to re-load the BIOS program and the operating system every time I unplug my computer.
