Ok, here's the deal...
I spoke to the 2nd owner of my car today and he told me when the headgaskets went out, the engine was replaced with a 1999 engine?! I called the dealership that did the work but was told they have a different computer system now and they can't go back and look at tickets from that far ago (1999). The copy of the RO I received from owner #3 when I bought the car says:
R.O. Opened: February 12, 1999
Customer notified: March 22, 1999
Temp gauge is running hotter than normal
Cause: R&R eng to repair head gasket
09000135 Short Engine- Replace (A)
176 WD4
FC: UC Part#: Count:
Claim Type:
Auth Code:
1509
Parts: $0 Labor: $0 Other: $0 Total Line: $0
(sorry for no punctuation, but this is exactly how the repair order reads):
"19889 Coolant Leak at Head Gaskets Remove Engine From car remove all necessary components per Viper warranty center send engine to warranty center reinstall all removed components reinstall engine"
So at the top of the repair order, it looks like they say they replaced the short block, but then at the bottom, it sounds more like they rebuilt the engine, which is what I thought was normal on head gasket warranty jobs.
Here's what I know about my engine: 3 rib intake manifold, dual throttle cable linkage, still has old paper style gaskets (Tator told me before they updated to MLS sometime in 99', so I always assumed my engine was rebuilt before the new MLS style gaskets came out, but wouldnt a Gen 2 automatically come with the MLS style???).
The VIN on my Viper is 1B3BR65E1TV100672 if someone can run the VIN and see if they can pull anything up. The Dodge dealership I spoke to tonight, said they could only check warranty work done in the past three years.
The confusing part to me is why is the 2nd owner telling me it has a 1999 engine in the car and why does the R.O. say "09000135 Short engine- Replace (A)"? Is it possible they replaced the shortblock w/a 99' block but put my 96' intake manifold on it? (are they interchangable)? This is really gonna rattle my brain until I have a definite answer, so someone please help
