I'm thinking about boosting my 97 GTS, but want to do some engine checks and mods to prep the car.

Question is what should I expect out of a compression and leak-down test if the engine is in good shape? Can anyone tell me what the threshold should be for these tests that would force me to take a closer look at the motor, and is there any other things I should check before moving towards boost?

Thanks in advance.

Wow, 60-views and no responses yet. There has to be someone on here that knows this stuff.

I have seen numbers ranging from 130 - 160 quoted here for compression. Depending on the accuracy of the instrument, I am guessing there will be slight variation. Even more than the number itself, I would look at the variance across the cylinders. If you see more than a 5-10 spread across cylinders or one or two that read abnormally low versus the others, then that is when I would begin scrutinizing things a little more closely.
