Years ago when I was a rampant street racer, we would sometimes have what we called "Load Night."

We all took our loads out and raced them. We had a lot of fun doing this.

I was in a friends 70 6 cyl Nova and we were racing a 6 cyl Ford Fairlane - the cars were very equal - maybe within a fender in the 1/4.

It was hilarious. We took off and got about a fender ahead. Since we were going so slow, we both decided to see who had the bigger "top end."

Well much to our amazement, one car would get about a fender ahead and then in about 30 seconds the other car would get a fender ahead.

This oscillation went on indefinitely!

What was happening was the trailing car was drafting and would get a run on the lead car. But it could only get so far before the roles were reversed.

Neither car had the power to pull away from the other. In fact, we probably got both cars going faster than they could all by themselves.

We also jumped up and down on the roofs and hoods of the junkier loads.
