has anyone noticed that the vipers at Roanoke dodge in Illinois are disgustingly overpriced, ex. a 2006 viper SRT10 convertible, 4200 miles $72,000 id say close to 10 grand overpriced
a 1996 B/W 12,525 miles, 57,000???, close to 10 grand overpriced

a 2001 viper RT/10, 6500 miles they want 57,000, 10 grand overpriced.

i checked out a 2001 yellow RT/10 with 9500 miles 1 owner, in great condition for 45,800

why would one pay 10 grand more??

Better to price high and negotiate down, then price at par and negotiate down.

There are people who pay, it might not sell quickly, but I'd let it sit on the market for several months if it meant I made $5-$10k more

Not sure what you're smoking, but for well kept cars in nice condition, that's about right. How about a 97 RT for $58k:

eBay Motors: Dodge : Viper (item 230211937893 end time Jan-18-08 05:59:55 PST)

Most cars at dealerships are priced a bit higher than private owners. They tend to pick only the finest examples for their showrooms and wholesale the rest.

The dealerships often warranty their sales more than a private owner, and they stand ready to take care of after the sales issues better than a private owner.

Just curious. Why did you not buy the great condition 01?

Agree with you that price spreads are a bit larger than usual, with some pretty good buys available.

I bought my first GTS from Roanoke. They are/were right behind Woodhouse for Viper sales in the country. It's a great sales team if the same guys are there. It's a gorgeous little Dodge dealer in the middle of NOWHERE. Nicest dealership I have ever been to.

They will come down on their prices. I haggled my first car down 4 grand back when a Viper actually held its value and they tend to only have extremely nice examples of Vipers, kinda like Bernie who deals/dealt with Roanoke often. Trust me, they know the market and will adjust accordingly if you play it right.

And if I am not mistaken you can purchase a MaxCare warranty from them with any Viper you buy. I don't think their are restrictions on Vipers you purchase from a Dodge dealer.

If you look in our classifieds section, the SRT-10 Convertibles there are priced right around the 70K mark. 4K over private sale value is about right for a dealer.

I suppose the other cars may be priced a bit high, but it depends on value as to how much.

Ultimately, I'd rather see prices go up than down.

I paid 65K to a dealer for my '01 ACR with 8K on it in the summer of '06. Prices have come down some since then, but I'd prefer they bottom out rather than continue to fall.

Roanoke is a highly reputable dealer that has great cars. Sometimes you pay for peace of mind. :usa:

Those are starting prices... I bought mine from there a couple months ago and felt like I got a reasonable deal. I traded a 1970 Super Bee in on a 94 Viper, so it was kinda hard to figure a "correct" difference. The best I could get for my Bee from a private person was $22,000. John gave me more than that off of what I would have expected to pay for the Viper outright without a trade in. Reasonable negotiation works well with them. By the way, John's (Roanoke) Vipers are normally "top notch" and he does not mess with ones that are not very very nice. So your question, "why would one pay 10 grand more?" is answered in two ways. First, through negotiation you will not pay 10K more, and secondly, you will be getting a top notch car. Just a comment from a satisfied customer. :)

Convenience, peace of mind, instant gratification, any number of reasons. Many people that can afford Vipers are willing to pay for what the respected dealers provide, rather than hassling with a private party transaction. It is all about your financial position, and your personal preferences.
A lot of people seem to have to get a smoking deal in order to be satisfied with their purchase. I'm just a cheap b@$t@rd, so that's why I spent so much time looking for my Viper.

I agree just another reason why I wouldn't buy from a dealer. Even if the car is mint I've seen really nice examples selling for considerably less.

wow i expected to get flamed as a 16 year old in the market for a viper, guess not, thanks for the opinions, i wasn't trying to say anything derragotary, just was a little curious. But if the cars are as good as everyone is saying seems fair, and yes their always is haggle room. Seeing as I'm in Wisconsin and we don't have any viper specialist dealers here, i figured when im ready that probably will be the first place to look.

thanks :drive:

That's a pretty dumb comment. Are you qualified enough to go look at a Viper on your own and know its not a piece of crap? Sure, it may look good, but do you know if it really IS good? If you are buying from Woodhouse, Roanoke, Tator, Bernie you KNOW that the car is top notch and has no stories. Personally, I'd spend 2-4 grand more for peace of mind.

You also get to purchase an extended warranty if purchased from a Dodge dealer. On the Viper an extended warranty is worth EVERY PENNY.

Nobody would have known you were 16 if you didn't just mention it. The best way for your age not to be an issue is to not make your age an issue....if you get my point.

Good luck in your search.
