Just wondering whats it gonna take 04' viper to (RWHP) run 130 mph traps in the 1/4 mile N/A? Im guessing 550 RWHP...

I just recently bought the car and here are the following mods:
VEC3
green filters
mopar exhasut

Would a good set of heads and Cam get me close?

Thanks

From what I hear, a good head/cam job would put you at 550+ rwhp (gg or strykers).

A new Viper? :) With the existing 3.07 gear set & 3400+ pd curb weight, it would take approx 520-570rwhp, depending on a lot of factors. Dyno, tires (DRs? slicks? street?, etc), temperature/humidity. I agree above that a mild head/cam package would get you 130mph fairly easily depending on whether you're in the Gen III or Gen IV. Gen IV would take nothing more than a set of headers & exhaust. Although I think we'll start seeing quite a few 08's consistently in the low low 130s, bone stock very soon.

A good set of heads + cam will definitely have you there!

I spoke to Jeff Moyers recently ( 2 weeks or so ago) and a set of his street striker heads and his cam with a good tune will get you well into 600rwhp or better on a genIII. Hoping to be my big mod of 2008. :2tu:

Well from talking with him I mentioned that concern that I didn't want whiplash when at idle hehe. He seems to belive that it's relativly tame but then were talking peoples perspective. Seems to me the cam idle is about like exhaust loudness for people. What one person thinks is rough another feels is golden? If and when I do it it I will let you know and give some feed back.

by the time you get all the gaskets, fluids, and misc. parts I'm sure it's close to $10k w/out labor... would make for a heck of a car though!

Or spend the 18k and get a 600 rwhp n/a built motor from Fat Albert (see classifieds). Heads are already ported, cam included. 600 rwhp n/a will get you in the high to mid 10's w/ good tires.

if you could get close to 600 at the wheels with cam and heads that would be my way to go instead of a blower.

Do you want MPH or a 10.99 sec ET? There are cars of similiar weight running high 10s with low 120s trap speeds.

You should be able to get close to 135 mph w/ a 600 rwhp car. Just keep in mind that most of these n/a cars producing those numbers have a compression ratio in the 10's, which is fine for n/a. But if you ever decide to TT or s/c later on that c/r might be a recipe for predetonation.
Make sure you balance the head cam mods so that you can force induct later if that might be an option.
And, of course a 600 rwhp n/a car will walk a 650-675 rwhp Paxton supercharged car in the 1/4 mile, and weighs about 90 lbs less, and runs cooler, and handles better w/out all the s/c stuff in the nose.

I've raced a Paxton SRT-10 that dyno'd about 700 and it was a good race until about 120+ and then my car started to pull away. Not by a lot, but there was nothing he could do and the distance just grew and grew.

My 2001 GTS ACR (track set up, 3.07 gears, stiff springs, sway bars & shocks, etc.) ran a 11.7 @ 129.4 mph on street tires last time out with my wife driving.

It made 510 rwhp / 535 tq at the time. This was an 80 degree day at 2000 feet elevation. Track prep was lousy and traction was mediocre.

With drag radials, this car should go 11.1 or 11.2 at about 130 mph.

One of my previous cars weighed 3450 lbs (3640 w/ driver) and ran 130 mph trap speeds all-motor. It made 535 rwhp, 510 ft-lbs at the time. This was a 434ci LS1 engine in a Firebird, 6-speed also.
