Just driving it around some could be some good therapy for an engine if it's in okay shape to start with. It's always a bit of a double edged sword in that you don't to make something worse if it's already broken, but sometimes just some exercise can help seals and carbon deposits to loosen up and get things running smoother. As far as maintenance, a full fluid change is usually a good idea for anything that's been sitting around or with an unknown service history. Some fuel system cleaner might be a good idea too to make sure injectors are flowing freely.
