The IL VCA has taken part in a VERY unusual and highly entertaining challenge being laid down to a prominent figure in Illinois. You may want to watch the news over the next couple days to see if you catch a glimpse…!

The TV show Sports-O-Holic contacted us for a TV spot highlighting the Dodge Viper as a challenge was laid down for a charity drag race with non-other than… former IL governor, Rod Blagojevich! Yes you heard right!

This morning the challenge was shot in downtown Chicago at the Chicago Club (an exclusive private business and social club open since 1869 with membership including many high ranking politicians, celebrities, and VIP’s). Rod, who is a member there, was challenged by Bill Kelly (host of Sports-O-Holic TV - a humorous show focused on sports) to the race in front of full media coverage (including all local TV stations 2, 5, 7, 9, etc…). It was made a big spectacle drawing a large crowd of onlookers in the middle of downtown.

Given the TV show wanted to highlight a modern muscle car that was American, we couldn’t decline. The IL VCA sent club member Glenn Davis to represent our club and put the Viper (his 08 Snakeskin Green) on display as the challenge was laid down. The green Viper was shot from all angles as the host spoke, and given Glenn’s willingness to “help”, several burnouts were laid down right in the streets of downtown with camera coverage. It was quite a morning of fun!

Keep your eyes peeled for news spots that might air regarding the wacky challenge. Footage will also air at some point on the Sports-O-Holic TV show which airs Thursday and Sunday nights at 12:30am.

Word will follow on whether Rod accepts. But either way, it’s fun to get the Viper on TV and have a good time with media in downtown Chicago!

I've been getting emails from folks asking about what happened with this, figure I'd post an update.

The episode with the challenge did air the week after it was shot. It was a nice piece lasting about 10 minutes. IT highlighted the Viper and William Kelly laid down his challenge to a drag race. At the end of the piece it showed the Viper burning as it left. A follow conversation with Sports-o-holic TV indicated that Rod's office was interested int he challenge and it may likely happen. News to follow.

Also, since there was media present during the shooting, we were actually also on the evening news! Two channels covered the shooting of the piece.

Thanks to Glenn for loaning his snake out and making the appearance.
