I got asked "How fast does it go in first gear?"

Can somebody explain to me why this would be the first question asked a Viper owner? And why would anyone give a crap?

He then proceeded to tell me about...can you guess?...his friend's TT Supra.

They must make more Supras than Vettes, but I SEE Vettes, I only hear about Supras.

I don't know what to say, Chuck. I guess since he asked you, then its your duty to educate him about torque curves, gear ratios and such! Ha-ha, glad it was you and not me!

Just funnin' wit cha.

More insipid questions...

How big is the gas tank? I reply with a price instead of gallons.

What's the mileage? - are they talking about mileage on the car or gas mileage? Either way, my answer is "beats me."

How high does the speedometer go? - my answer is "is that the gauge next to the tach?"

Last night I was leaving my favorite bar on Sunset Blvd. and a few girls ran up to my car. So far, nothing unusual. One of them asked how fast my car goes. I started to answer her when she said, "How fast have you taken it?" I said, "About 130, well actually that was my other one, this one was just broken in so I haven't had a chance to take it much over 100 yet." The other girls asked, "How fast? How fast?" The girl turns around and said very matter of factly, "He's only gone 130." They were too ugly for me anyway.

Being nice to people when they ask questions about your car
spreads good feelings about Viper owners in general
and might keep your car from getting keyed in particular.
Is it that hard to spend a few minutes answering questions about your car?
Any politely asked question, no matter how foolish it might seem to you,
should be answered with a polite response.
I hope that people in general will continue to view Viper owners
as down to earth car enthusiasts
but that perception of us as a group starts with the behaviour
of each of us as individuals.

Don't worry Kow, just because I talk about people behind their backs doesn't mean I don't treat them with courtesy to their face.

I am real cool about answering all the questions and showing the "fast and furious" crowd a good time.

Only two questions get real old with me:

"Can you open the hood?"

"Can I have a ride?"
