Hey, I was wondering if anyone knew of good websites to find great deals on car audio systems.

I went to a local Mobile Electronics Specialist today; the place is called "Pro Sound". If you live near Haverhill, MA you might have heard of it before; it's in Salem, NH. Anyways, Right now I'm looking at buying the following for my new Viper:

iPod Solutions
Alpine iDA-x100 Digital Media Receiver: $350

PDX Amplifiers
PDX-1.1000 Mono Power Density Digital Amplifier: $800
PDX-4.150 4/3/2 Channel Power Density Digital Amplifier: $700

Speakers
Boston Pro60 6 1/2-inch Series Speakers: $600 for a pair
These are last years model so they said they would sell them for $400 a pair! x2 = $800

Subwoofers
Boston G510-44 10-inch Subwoofers: $350 per sub x2 = $700

TOTAL: $3,350

Do any of you know of any websites that could help me save some of that cash?

Thanks! :2tu:
Anthony

Do you think these are legit?

eBay Express: BOSTON ACOUSTICS G510-44 10" SUB CAR AUDIO SUBWOOFER G5 - Description
Each one is $193.01 with shipping so 2 of them would be: $386.02

eBay Express: BOSTON ACOUSTICS PRO60 6.5 CAR AUDIO COMPONENT SPEAKERS - Description
Each one is $277.01 with shipping so 2 of them would be: $554.02

eBay Express: NEW ALPINE PDX-4.150 4-CHANNEL AMPLIFIER CAR AUDIO AMP - Description
This would be $399.01 with shipping.

eBay Express: ALPINE PDX 1.1000 CLASS D CAR AUDIO AMPLIFIER MONO AMP - Description
This would be $457.01 with shipping.

TOTAL: $1,796.06

I couldn't find my Head Unit(Alpine iDA-x100) on that site so I'd prob just pay full price in the store being $349.99 for it... But anyways do you think this guy on ebay(Merchant: audio-club(13188)) is legit? He has a good feedback score too of 99.3%.. I'm seriously considering doing this since all of this together would be $2,146.05 compared to $3,350 if I bought it all at the store... Also the Boston Pro60 speakers for $554 according to that link are the new 2008 models which I would get cheaper then last years model totaling $800 in the store..

Feedback of 99.3% with over 15,000 reported transactions?

I'd buy from them in a heartbeat.

Just always pay with a credit card for double protection.

Check Amazon too.

I know... I was thinking the same thing- it just seems too good to be true haha.. They all include a 2-Year Warranty and I'd save like $1200!! :D

You could spend that $1200 at Crutchfield on a roll of speaker wire.

:lmao:

I'll put it towards a new exhaust :2tu:

btw I posted a thread the other day regarding exhausts... what kind do you have or recommend? I was thinking either Bellenger, Borla or Corsa...

I'm converting my '01 GTS to side exhaust here in a month or so. Have all the parts. Just need to do it.

Belanger headers, RT ceramic HF cats from Parts Rack, mufflers and side pipes by Belanger. Autoform sills.

Here is a cheaper alternative that may arguably sound better:

iPod Solutions
Alpine iDA-x001 Digital Media Receiver: $241 on Amazon

PDX Amplifiers
PDX-1.600 Mono Power Density Digital Amplifier: $275 on Amazon
PDX-4.100 4/3/2 Channel Power Density Digital Amplifier: $275 on Amazon

Speakers
Front - Alpine Type-X SPX-17REF - Car speaker - 75 Watt - 2-way - component - $182 on Amazon
Back - Alpine Type-X SPX-17REF - Car speaker - 75 Watt - 2-way - component - $182 on Amazon

Subwoofers
Alpine SWX-1043D Type-X 10" Subwoofer - $179 on Amazon

TOTAL: $1,334

Quite a savings, wouldn't you say, and I included component speakers for the back too. In the back I rerouted the tweeter to right behind the seat like in the Gen 3. I mounted the amps in the standard amp location for a Gen II and built a custom enclosure for the subwoofer and filled the cavity on the right side of the hood.

Note: One 10' sub may already be overkill since it can pretty much shake the car down. With 2 you may have trouble finding a place to mount them.
Note2: The X type speakers that I included are some of the best Alpine makes.

Hey man,

Thanks for the tip; but I would rather have this year’s model deck being the X100. As far as the other stuff you listed; it all sounds good but I tested out the Boston speakers in the store and they absolutely blow away the Alpine Type R and Type X(IMO). Don’t get me wrong though; I have always been a huge fan of Alpine(I still am) and planned on getting Type R’s but hearing the Boston in the store made me change my mind. I have also heard good reviews from people regarding the Boston subs out performing the Alpine’s Type R and Type X so since I already have Type R’s in my old car I thought I would try something new.

You definitely make a good point though and I really appreciate your response; but I really like the stuff I put together. I’m just trying to find the best savings for the stuff I listed and I think if I bought that stuff off ebay from that seller with high positive feedback would be my best bet.

Also....Just wanted to make sure before I buy anything.

2 pairs of 6-1/2inch speakers in the front and rear.. so four speakers total in the car is correct right? All four speakers are the same size for 1996-2002 Vipers?

The ones in the hood are 4". Be sure to get a heat resistant model.

Doors and rears are as you stated.

So hold up.. hah, so how many speakers total? And what kind of 4" heat resistant speakers are you referring too? I knew nothing about this..

Or can I just replace doors and rears and leave whatever is in the hood alone..

Yep, four 6-1/2 speakers (one in each door and two in the trunk. And in my suggested course 4 tweeters also.

Looking at the Alpine website, the X100 is the cheaper version of the X001:

Alpine Electronics of America, Inc.

Oh, and the Boston Pro 60 are $284 on Amazon for this year's model so you can still save money on that.

Yup.. you are absolutely right. However, I was told the reason for it being cheaper was because Alpine has found a way to make the technology of the new/same deck cheaper and better. If you notice in the link you gave me if you check off both the X100 and X001 and choose to compare them both(not that this is a huge deal) but under the Specifications the wattage for the X100 is greater then the X001: (X100 = 50W x 4) compared to (X001 = 45W x 4)
Alpine Electronics of America, Inc.
I also like the look of the X100 better without the six blue buttons on the left side of the unit.

P.S. thanks again for yet another tip ;)
I'll check amazon out when I get a chance :2tu:

The wattage is of little importance since you will be using external amplifiers, not the one in the head unit.:smirk:

Yea your right- I forgot about that.. in my car now I have my deck powering the speakers since it was the cheaper way to go.. figured this time I'll go all out and buy a completely separate amp to power up the speaks ;)

If you want some REAL speakers, find someone in your area who is a dealer in "Canton" speakers. They are by far the best car speakers I have ever heard. It is a German company and is mostly into high end home audio for audiophiles like myself, but does have an excellent line of car speakers. I have them in my Ford 500 and people freak when they hear them and I get enough low end that I do not even need a sub, but they make a sub if you need to rattle your car! I coupled it with a good Soundstream amp and Eclipse headunit (I wanted Denon, but they do not make car audio stuff anymore) and the sound is nothing short of amazing. Also, anyone looking for home audio must find a Canton dealer near and take a listen. Canton makes BOSE (and other popular brands sold at most audio stores) sound like an AM radio stuffed under a pillow in a trash can. One word of caution, great speakers interpret what is put into them so well that if the recording is bad or you are using mostly MP3 (which is never as good of quality as a full cd), you may be surprised that the sound is not as good as expected. Great speakers amplify poor recordings. However, great speakers make good to excellent recordings come alive like average to above average speakers will not do. I experience this sometimes when I put in a cd that is not recorded well, but the sound I get when I put in something that was recorded well is worth putting up with poorly recorded stuff from some 60's & 70's bands. Good luck. :)

I have a set of DLS ultimate iridium 3 ways going in my Viper soon.

If you want really good speakers, look into DLS. made in Sweden and the 6.5 inch and 3 inch use THREE inch voice coils, that is unreal.

I would say leave the hood speakers stock. It's an odd size to try and find, and the stock ones sound pretty good... :rolaugh:
