From the Challenger Forum. I'll be attending and I see Ken Lally and Kelly Cobean on the list as well but don't know which of their toys they will drive.

AUGUST 9
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The Meet and Greet will be at Ourisman Dodge in Chantilly. Ourisman will be providing lunch and door prizes.

Ourisman Dodge
4105 Auto Park Circle
Chantilly, VA. 20151

We will be at Ourisman from 11:00 - 1:30 when we will depart for the cruise. I recommend you bring some water because I'm sure it will be HOT!

We are at >60 cars now. They are making room for up to 150 cars. Let see how close we can get to that #....

Also we will have at least (3) Challenger's there. One in each Color (Silver, Black, and Orange).

Directions to Ourisman Dodge:

Ourisman Chantilly Dodge: Virginia Dodge | Chantilly VA Dodge | Ourisman Dodge

From the Dulles Toll Road or the Greenway, take Rt 28 South to US 50 West.

From I-66 take Rt 28 North to Rt 50 West.

On Rt 50 West, go to third stop light, turn left on Stonecroft Blvd, then the first right at Auto Park Circle. You'll see Ourisman Dodge at the corner of Stonecroft and Rt 50.

Cruise Details:

You'll enjoy some beautiful scenery and steer twisty fun roads in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Detailed driving instructions will be provided in case we get separated. I would also recommend bringing a FRS/GMRS radio if you have one. Channel info will be provided with the driving instructions. Be sure to fuel up prior to the cruise. If you need fuel prior to the cruise, from Rt 28 go east on Rt 50 approx. ½ mile.

The Cruise will end at a Starbucks and Cold Stone Ice Cream shop (they are next door to one another).

Not sure if I will make it or not. If I do I probably will skip the cruise unless it is the same route we did June 28th as I have another event out west I comitted to later in the day.

But your blue Vipe will still be there w/out you right? LOL
I thought I saw it on Mon when I went to buy a new can of tire goo.

It probably will be there. Rob and Dwayne, service writer and viper-tech that take care of me both have asked me to leave it there for the weekend.

I plan to be there, Viper-less but in the Black Italian car again. Hope to see some familiar faces/cars.

Kelly, All,

Well, the event and cruise sure was fun. It was a beautiful day, a great line-up of vehicles and then. . . pothole!!! Thanks to Dave and the folks who stopped to help. I ended up spending the better part of an hour waiting for the transport service, got the car loaded and back home. It looks like it will definitely be a new tire (sidewall had a 2" gash in it), and a new rim - bent lip. Has to be one of the strangest things ever, as we weren't doing more than 10 MPH when I hit the pothole. Oh well, such is life.

Looking forward to the next event and cruise - that I can actually finish!

JERRY!!!!

I've been absolutely racking my brain trying to remember your screen name here so I could ask if everything was ok, I'm REALLY glad you posted. I'm so sorry to hear about your wheel/tire. If I wasn't leading the cruise, there is no question I would have stayed with you until the transport got there and got you home. I felt guilty for not turning around, it was almost like leaving a man on the battlefield.

I gotta tell you though, you scared the ever-lovin' poo out of me! You were absolutely STUCK to my bumper in those curves, then I crested a hill, looked in my rear view mirror and there was a 300C behind me. My heart jumped up into my throat. You're right, we weren't going very fast, but I envisioned the worst. When I saw cars still behind me, I figured you had pulled off for something minor, as they certainly would have stopped if something was seriously wrong and I would have been by myself all of a sudden.

Anywho, it was a pleasure seeing you and that beautiful car again as always...looking forward to next time. I think based on your mishap, I may go and explore that area for some better roads.

ETA: I just saw the picture of the car up on the transport....did they get it on with no damage, and were they called via FoW, or was that someone you could provide me contact info for in case I'm ever need.

Kelly,

Thanks for the reply. No worries, a couple of cars stopped and I knew you had to keep things rollin' for the rest of the group. It was truly an odd thing. We had just stopped at the "Y" in the road where there was a stop sign. You headed out, and I turned right behind you and we both hit the accelerator hard, but just as I started rolling it felt like I rolled through a huge pothole. Your car exhaust was so loud and I could hear my car's exhaust and then a loud sound like glass breaking. It turned out, it was the air rushing out of the 2" gash in the sidewall of my right rear tire. It took me a short while to realize what had happened as the tire didn't go completely flat right away. . .but everytime I would get on the gas the car felt loose in the rear. I really thought I had broken something on the suspension. Anyway, after we headed up that hill I pulled off in somebody's driveway and called FoW. They got one of their transporters to me and we loaded the car quite easily (I actually drove the car on the flatbed myself. . .also backed it off when we got it to my home). So, other than missing the rest of the cruise, I now have to locate a replacement rim - new one will run $3,000!!! Yikes! Who knows, I may just buy a completely new set of racing wheels! :)

It was good to see you and I wish things had gone differently, but such is life.

See you next time. . .and yes, I'd vote for a different route!

Wow...THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! And that probably doesn't include the new set of rear tires huh? That is insane! I honestly want to go back and see if I can find that Ferrari eating pothole. It's amazing that with so many cars, only one of us hit it.

I did some Google Earth sniffing today and I think I found a great alternate route for us. I won't know for sure until I can get out there and drive it, but it looks like a good one.

Ken,

I really appreciate your stopping. Yeah, the new wheel cost is crazy. I've taken it to a Ferrari rim specialist and it is fixable!! Hoooray!

See you next time.

I'd love some company. Not sure when I'm going to get out there, but maybe this weekend.

Sorry to hear you had a bummer weekend.

A Saturday morning expedition sounds great to me. I've been a little out of the loop with work and other stuff recently.

Sunday is good for me. Should we notify the NOVA email list or keep it small since this is a recon in force type of event?

Smaller would be better only because these are unknown country roads. The possibility of having to turn around due to a road turning to gravel, inaccurate mapping, etc. is higher, and we probably don't want to have 10 cars trying to flip a U all at the same time.

Kelly,

Let me know when you're heading out this weekend to scout the routes. Hopefully my rim will be ready and back on the car by Saturday. If not, I'll bring my heavily modified 300ZX twin turbo. . .even has 4 good rims and tires.

Here's a pic of the Ferrari and Z resting peacefully. . . and a close-up of the rim that was damaged Saturday.

Will do Jerry. That 'crimp' in the wheel is nasty, I'm glad they are able to repair. The sidewall looks like it didn't stand a chance.

Do you have a picture of your 300ZX out from under the cover?

Kelly,

Here are a few pics of my 300ZX twin turbo. The last one is from the FoW Summit Point track event July 22, 2008.

Hope you enjoy.
