No theif in his right mind would steal a viper - everyone would
see... and in most cases hear him making his getaway. The rest of
those numbers are high simply because of the low production rate.
2 corvettes a year would translate into 0.0001...

Bonkers is right, it depends on how you compare. If you don't adjust for production numbers, they're incredibly low. The fact that so few Vipers were made makes the numbers more significant, but still negligible IMO. If you look at the losses in terms of dollars and compare the Camry vs. Viper, Viper theft is a drop in the bucket.

You'd have to have some brass ones to steal a Viper unless you were well prepared.

Restating the obvious -

5 Gen 1 stolen
9 Gen 2 stolen
2 Gen 2 ABS stolen... (OK, I go by what type of brakes)

Looks like going to the mall is back on the list of things to do?

So that means our insurance should be low. The only thing that would add to our premiums is the expense if you had to repair the hood.

From what I hear Ferraris have extremely low theft rates simply because of their low numbers. There's no black market for parts so it's not attractive to thiefs. Unless you're Nicholas Cage and you only have 60 seconds.

Once again I question data, I know of two '97 Vipers that were stolen; the data shows zero.

Were they driven like they were stolen, or actually stolen?

I would also question these numbers, does this include the ones that were stolen from dealers lots, if so, the numbers actually stolen from the owners would be even less. I remember reading here on the forum of at least a couple that were stolen from a dealer

More interested if production data is accurate. Don't really care about how many are stolen unless it's mine. OK I feel all Viper owners' pain when something happens to their baby.

So that means our insurance should be low. The only

The actual value of the car is negligable in the cost of your
insurance. Theft rate probably makes up about $1.50/yr of your
premium (though I'm sure they tell you they charge you for
such things.)

Your insurance is basically based on three main things:

How baddly your passenger can get hurt.
How baddly you can hurt the passengers in the other car you hit.
The likilyhood of the other person suing you if you hit them.

...

Covering the insurance of the illegals coming to America and driving
without insurance is probably a distant fourth.

Car insurance payouts focus on bodily injury. If you total the spines
of a family of four it could cost your insurance company millions
upon millions of dollars. The most they'll pay for your car being
stolen is maybe $100k - that's pennies in the emergency healthcare
universe.
