Decals and carbon fiber = Ricer !!! ;)

What is so funny is that we were discussing that with a group of other Viper owners that were checking out the carbon fiber cover (they loved it). We decided that if I can get a set of "Type R" decals to put just below the "VIPER" logos on the sides and back bumper, THEN the car will be complete. :2tu:

Oh, and I have a "donor" black SRT (with stripes) that I will get this cover on over the weekend. Will post those pictures as well. Might also be interesting to see what the fiberglass version would look like in gloss black with matching silver stripes on that car. Hmmmm...

Let us know how it looks in a few months ... that CF better have been made with an advanced vacume process ... otherwise, you'll have bubbles in the CF caused by heat expansion of trapped air spaces in the CF weave ... this is especially true for CF exposed to direct hot sun

I've had several CF pieces that looked great when they were first installed, and then had dozens of tiny 'chicken pox' bubbles a few months later

I asked our Carbon fiber specialist to give me his take on your comment and here is his response

I saw that post, our parts ARE made with the most advanced aerospace methods. The pre **** systems we use are the very same used on advanced jet fighters, the space station, and all. The very same, exact, mil spec systems. There is not one other automotive composite place that could make that claim. Nothing gets made here that is not at the very least vacuum bagged. We use pre-**** materials on every part that has the natural carbon finish. We do not clear coat anything. The resin has a UV inhibitor already in it. Vettemann has never seen carbon done the way we do it. All he’s ever seen is the junk everyone else pushes. Bubbles aren’t caused by ‘heat expansion’…. I am positive the parts he’s had have been poly resin’d, clear coated parts. It’s the poor preparation that causes the blisters and ‘out-gassing’ of dissimilar materials together. Not heat expansion by the sun. I know he hasn’t had one of our carbon tonneaus’ in his hand yet; but when you pick one up and see how light and strong it is, then compare it to the vacuum bagged wet lay up part you have, you’ll see what carbon parts are supposed to be made like.
If they take normal care of the parts, and use our Carbon Brite detailer on them pretty regular, I’d have no problem with a five year finish warranty.

Chris could you please post some pics of the ends closest to the doors so that we can see the finish look of the two ends near the seats and inside door panels.

Ken - Sorry I was a little delayed in getting this shot for you. Needless to say, the fit and finish is top notch:

I would also note that it does NOT fit in the trunk. Haven't tried it personally, but the manufacturer says "nope" and the dimensions look like it ain't gonna happen. It does, however, fit in the passenger compartment (with passenger) in a pinch. But they won't be happy about it... ;)

Looks like it sits up just a hair high in the front, and that is because his roll bar install pushed the bulkhead back about an inch too far. He didn't realize it until I pointed it out (and he lost a $50 bet in the process). Oh, and there is NO distortion in the finish either - those are just clouds that reflected in the pic. Still looks pretty darn good!

Thanks Chris for that detailed description of the cover. You definitely are a major asset to this board and I appreciate all the time you devote to answering so many questions from the VCA members and Viper community.
