Forgive the duplicate effort, but Mumford said that other forum gets no run and suggested I give notice in here, The Mother of All Forums. I apologize to the Moderators if I've been tricked into breaching the posting agreement. Lastly, I'd like to point out that the Vette Guys have stepped up en-masse with only me and friggin Mumford to defend the Viper's glory.

Hi Everyone -

I just wanted to drop in here really quickly to let you know about our event, The Open Track Challenge. Does 7 of the best tracks on the West Coast in 7 days sound like fun? How about full day time trials at each site using the Formula One qualifying format? There are classes for trailered cars and cars that drive the entire competitive route. And, at the end of the week, a big party and awards banquet at one of the casino-hotels on Vegas's Strip. If you're interested, please visit www.opentrackchallenge.com for more information or www.nsxfiles.com where Doug Hayashi (an OTC Organizer) has laid down the gauntlet to other automotive groups.

This should be a great opportunity for the East Coasters and NorCal folks to war Mumford in his own backyard after his "ALL YOUR HOME TRACKS ARE BELONG TO ME" speeches. Please pray for me as I am teaming up with the venerable PMUM and his roadtrip collection "Grandmaster Flash's Greatest Hits" and "Captain & Tenille: A Tribute". Having just looked at the Viper Days schedule for 2002, the Viper Camp should without a doubt be better prepared than anyone. Of course, the Vette Camp already thinks they have this thing wrapped up.

Hope to see y'all out there!

Must I be the only defender of the Viper's honor? Rumor has it that Godfather Schley is also signing up for this event. It seems to be fairly similar to One-Lap except you spend way more time driving on racetracks, way less time on the freeway and the tracks don't ****. Are any other Viper pilots entering this?

They just opened up the forum and the Vette contingent is already running trash talk:

Paul,

I read the tread you posted above.
Question - do the Vettes stand a chance car for car? Or is it really a driver issue?

Also, is this an event that you would expect to win?
Email me if you wish to keep your comments private, but I would really like to know!

Regards,

While my car certainly won't be among the fastest examples there it should be close enough to keep us in the hunt. I've raced with a lot of the faster Vette guys door to door and have usually beat them. Being on street tires at tracks that I frequent should be a big advantage for us. Also, it's a two driver deal and my co-driver is supposed to be a bad ****, so we should be OK there.

I'll be in the class where you've gotta drive the car to the tracks and most cars that are better prepared than mine would likely encounter difficulty getting to the tracks. There's a separate class for trailered cars so I won't have to deal with non-street legal cars.

I think it would be more than crazy to assume that I'm going to win a big event like this, but I'd like to think that I've got a good chance. It should be a hell of a week, fun wise. There's not too much driving, tons of track time and there will be a lot of good people there. Is anybody else here going to enter it?

Paul,

I saw you driving a couple of time and you are a fast, smoooth driver.
I had a good time at Laguna watching you driving the wheels of you little Honda S 2000.
I know pretty well Ryan and John from NASA/Open Track and they are nice and serious guys.
I am thinking of may be doing it or at least if possible a few tracks like Thunderhill.
And remember,if they run it like formula 1,your tires need to still have some treads at the end of the race !!!!

So you are warned,no games like 4 wheels drift or doughnuts, or black marks on the track to make your street tires slicks in 2 laps!!!.
Luc.

I'm pretty sure it's usually just "****". Rarely do I hear "bad" preceding it.

I think the Vette, Viper, and Turbo Porsche showdown in Touring and Unlimited will go a long way in establishing which is the more dominant package in weekend trim. All the major racing series try to equalize them whereas we are saying, "here's a ton of track time, make sure your cars are up to a week's worth of pounding, and make sure you have A-list drivers behind the wheel."

On the other end of the spectrum, many folks are joining our event just for the vacation. Lots of East Coast racers will never be afforded the time and energy to hit all these tracks. Now they can almost do it in one fell swoop and be around some of the best drivers in the country.

Don't let Paul sell himself short. He's been breaking it off to just about everyone in his relatively untouched Vipers and he's one of maybe five drivers I actually fear on these tracks. He will definitely be in contention and represent the Viper community well...even with the neverending smack.

Bruce -

If the schedule shows some daylight, we'd love to have you and Tammy show.

COUNTACH -

There will be no NE version of OTC. Put the car on a transporter and come play!

Let me also add that the Viper Days schedule for 2002 stacks a lot of our tracks early on in the year. I don't know if the Viper Days schedule I saw was locked in, but doing those events would really have you dialed in come OTC time in May. We are pointing a lot of our entrants at Skip for that reason.
