Optima won\'t fit my car but I found one that does....

The Redtop's posts are 7-3/4" high. My frame is 7-1/4".

All of these Vipers are different. I guess it depends on who welded it. Not wanting to modify the car I did some research.

Here's the BEST one I found....and believe me I've looked.

Autozone - Duralast GOLD Model #78-DG ( No Top Posts)
8 year warranty
3 year FREE replacement (I like this part - They can look for this battery every 35 months FOREVER!)

1,000 Cranking Amps 800 Cold Cranking Amps
$69.99
Fits perfectly.

Did you try the Optima with it laying on its side to see if it fits?

If you lay the Optima on it's side, you'll need to figure out a way to secure it properly. The top doesn't have that notch at the bottom.

Good report!!!!

I will look into this. Thanks for providing good and complete information.

Also, my service manager is making provisions to have the car repainted.

To hell with Optima's. A BATTERY COMPANY they wont pitch in the $$ to make a side-post only battery doesnt deserve our business.

I agree about the top post's issue. I was never comfortable with those top posts (even with the plastic caps installed) being that close to the frame. A little vibration and some jiggling around and the protective plastic cap wears through.

If you've ever seen what a battery can do when a positive post comes into contact with the frame you would be AMAZED! It'll melt right through the frame causing one heck of a fire.

Whatever...with the Autozone warranty I figure I've just bought my last battery.

Paul: I checked with Autozone.....the duralast Gold battery is NOT a sealed battery. It is just like the Mopars, the caps come off and the fluid can potentially leak??!!!

I want a battery that won't leak.....I don't trust the Mopars. Warranty may repaint, but they will put another Mopar in. I'd rather pay for a sealed battery myself before they repaint.

The Optima, which Autozone sells is a gell battery, according to the saleman. But I recall that someone here did not recommend it. So I have more research.

What a pain!!

OH..... and notice that I didn't say what a pain in the *** this time. :D
