Pad prep for 14\" slotted rotors?

I recently upgraded the front of my 2002 GTS to 14" slotted rotors. I'm using the stock front calipers and PFC 01 pads.

I've used them for just a single track session, where once the brakes warmed up, I could definitely feel the slots as kick back in the pedal (I actually pitted because I thought I had a cracked rotor)

I beveled the pads 1/8" to 1/4". Do I need a bigger bevel on the pads? Is the kick-back something I just have to live with?

The slots should be beveled. Not the pads. There should not be any kickback.
