The answer would be no. Just move your seats as far forward as possible and tilt the seat backs forward. On mine I needed the stubby phillips screw driver to get the screws out with the rubber stops on them. Other than that it is pretty easy.
It comes out easier if you have the top off as well just lift it out behind the seats.
I switched the center console speaker last weekend with little effort. In my case, I removed the grille and four screws. I replaced the stock speaker with a jl audio w60 sub woofer. There was no need to remove the section behind the seats.
I would recommend removing seats its much easier to do work. you can do the JL 6W0 switch but to really get what that little thing can offer you got to fiberglass and encase it
