Thinking of purchasing a 04 viper, what is the power train warranty. When did they go to a 3 or 36 month warranty on the powertrain?

my 03 has a 7 year powertrain warranty. From what I know this was the only year for the SRT that offered 7 year - then it went back down to 3 year for 04,05,06...

Incorrect. 7/70 powertrain was also offered on the '04 SRT-10. 3/36 powertrain on the '05 and '06.

Did the 7/70 powertrain warranty come with the car or did that have to be purchased?

The 7/70 powertrain warranty came with the '03 and '04 models. However, the warranty on cars built after October, 2003, was limited to the first and second owners only. Additionally, there is a transfer fee for the second owner.

Prior to October, 2003, the warranty applied to the vehicle, irrespective of the number of owners.

I know this because I'm the third owner of an '03 built in March, 2003.

A dealer counts as an owner, correct?

So, If one purchases the car brand new, then lets say the original buyer sells the car to a dealer, and then the dealer sell the car to another person, the last person is the third owner? Or does the dealer not count as an "owner"??

Also, if the dealer does count as an owner, and the last person is the third owner, it the 7/70 not transferable, even with a fee??

If the dealer does not register it then you would be the second owner. Now remember there is a time limit on transfering the warranty if I recall correctly.

DC Dealers do not count as owners, and normally you are fine. There has been some problems , occasionally when Used Car Dealers took possession and registered the car for some fix. In that case you could be out of luck.

Keep in mind that the Powertrain Warranty only covers about 200 items.

Hope this is helpful?

Look in your warranty book (in the glove box with the owners manual).

I was told that not every '04 came with the 7/70 powertrain warranty. Any dealer can input your serial number to check whether is has it or not. If it is an issue, you should check with a dealer to be certain. If the car is new and the sticker say it has it, I cannot imagine that it wouldn't be covered.

I bought my 05 new and paid for the max care extended warranty 7/70. So I think it is probably still available and just depends on what the original owner paid for.

I just had Bill look mine up the other day, and I have the 7/70 powertrain assigned to me as the second owner, but as Bill states the powertrain warranty only covers about 200 items. I would recommend getting the max-care extended which covers about 5000 parts. I intend to purchase the max-care in the near future if I dont purchase another Viper first :headbang:
