rearend clunk

switched from my gen2 to a gen 3 this week(more on that later).i noticed a clunk in the diff.area..normal or no.....dave

Please check the condition of the u-joints on your rear half-shafts, particularly the inboard units. My Gen II always had a bit of a "Viper clunk" in the rear, but it got a bit worse (still not horrible). Found out my inboard driver's side half-shaft u-joint was blown (the two opposing cups bolted to the differential yoke had no needle bearings at all).

My SRT has had clunks from the very first. Other people on this forum have also reported this "feature" of the GEN III Vipers.

Hopefully, it's just a nuisance and not a sign of pre-mature failure.

I had a viper tech check it out last summer and they said it is normal.

In my experience with cars, two pieces of metal banging together is not normal

I get soft driveshaft "clunks" coming from the differential area when load is disengaged (push clutch in while idling up an incline). I'm pretty sure its normal.
