What is the best way to remove the gas cop cover assembly (not just the cover) so it can be plated? There are 4 allen head screws holding the cover flange to the body, but the fuel vent and filler hoses must be disconnected. Can I pull the hoses out far enough or do I have to access behind the body?

I have just done that! Grab the filler neck tight and pull it out of the car, just long enough to enable you to change grip to holding on to the filler neck pipe. Gently "wiggle" the door assembly free of the fillerneck. It is just held in place by the rubber bushing. It takes a little more patience putting it back!

Good Luck!

You will find if you use a small bit of tire dressing on the rubber bushing (I recommend Zaino), it will go on and off with NO problem at all. Learned this trick from George at MGW, as I have installed two gas caps of his. Great stuff!
