I have seen this oversupply of Vipers before. In 95 the dealerships were full of RT/10 that were hard to move. Pemberton's snake pit was full to the rafters.

Then they released the 96 Coupe, and stopped production of the RT/10's.

People then snapped up the "hard to get" RT, and the factory struggled to make enough GTS's. Things balanced out nicely when in 97 the supply of GTS's finally began to catch up with demand, and the factory began making the enhanced RT/10 with the bigger engine, and better suspension.

The new RT/10's with power windows, adjustable pedals, and upgraded interiors began to sell well, as there was again some pent up demand.

Deja Vu. Think the convertable will be taken off the table when the new Coupe is released, exclusively for a few years. Then a improved convertable will round out the production.
Only one Man's opinion.

Amusing side note: Out of the 50 yellow VCA SRT-10's produced world-wide, FOUR of them were drawn in Kansas City...

AND ONLY ONE IN EUROPE: 007 OF 050. james says hello to everybody. ok, i was joking: i hope DC will stop yellow production color as soon as possible, because it was announced to be ONE specific color. and it's not correct to announce a car that costs more than 5k more than reg prize, and then only 2 months later it will be a regular colour (very bad!!!).... for me, DC can choose a lot other colours of past years to be very exclusive, also because MOPAR colours have been all time a great choice (lime, orange, aso).

Four of them in Kansas City?!? Those cheeky ********! ;) And I agree with you 110% about the yellow being released a couple months later - very, very lame move on the part of DC. Of course the jury is still out on whether they still grasp the Viper market or if they are just going through the motions at this point.

Note to my buddies at CAAP: You guys design and build one helluva car. You just need to slap the guys in marketing on the back of the head so they wake up. They are definitely not winning them over like they used to, which really is unfortunate...

[h=1]"Those Who Do Not Learn History Are Doomed To Repeat It." [/h]If you have been following the GenV forums as I have, take the time to go back to the begining of this one. Substitute "GenV" for "Gen3", Fiat for DC, etc.
You will be amazed at History repeating itself a little less than 10 Years later. It is chock full of Negativity, bad mag reviews previous Viper Generation Haters (I will be the first to admit I was one of them). it took the Gen4 for me to fall in love)
Enjoy

Y2K, what RavenFan just said!
Each time I was ready to chime in on this tread, you had already hit the nail on the head. We can only hope that DC reads and seriously considers your posts.
I waited until the last week in Feb. 04 to receive my car, which was a sold order at my dealer (Ringgold Dodge) since the first day that orders were accepted!. Meanwhile the local Dodge dealer had received two 04 Vipers, (both black) which they told me "just showed up". Since they were both identical, one was kept back in the shop, and the other went to the front of the showroom with a $10,000 "adjustment" to the MSRP.
As it turned out, the car arrived just in time for my March 1st retirement, and missed the bolt recall.
For the record, I love everything about the car, and I have not had a single problem with it in almost 5000 miles so far.
But, had the wait gone any longer, I was ready to cancel the order and buy a Porsche GT-2 that had just become available. I had decided that a six month wait for a sold order was plenty, while unsold cars sat at dealers all over the country.

That was an interesting read. 10 years on, our Gen3s are doing OK, although they do have their quirks and weak points, just like any other car. My 2003 with 31,180 miles has been, for the most part, a pretty good car, but you can see where Daimler "cheaped out" on some things 10 years ago.
