Soft Top Side Rails (aftermarket?)

Most of us with Gen Is have experienced the bowing of the soft top side rail. Some of us have tried heating them to approx 160 F and re-bending them. I have a question - has anyone tried to use a straight set of side rails as moldel for molds and having them cast in aluminum. Before I try to re-invent the wheel I was hoping it had been tried before.

A friend of mine in Ohio tried early on in 1997. We actually touched base with the OEM supplier and tried to get help. They HATED the Viper project and only did it due to the fact that they had the JEEP top bizs and were 'pressured' by FatherViper and his procurement boss.

I love that these guys are retiring/retired and now I can feel better telling the old-days trivia.
