Does anyone know when the dealers will actually be placing orders for the new coupe? I left a credit card number with my local dealer a few months ago and he said he would not process it until he could actually order the car. I stopped by there yesterday but he wasn't in and no one else could answer.

A bug in my ear with "connections" to the DC engineering dept. told me to hold off until 2007 and I would be rewarded for doing so. To me it seems unlikely that they would produce a coupe for only one year and then make radical changes to the Viper as we know it. Anyone else have a "***********" with info?

Have heard approximate 50 HP for 2007. Body sides to have some change to meet 2007 side impact fed. standards. I'm going to buy a 2006 and trade my 2003.

Hi Bob,

I have heard something similar, perhaps from your same source?
I have also been hearing a HP increase for 06 though? It's all rumors for now.
I thought for quite some time that the Coupe would be out in 07 (Check my sig, that's been there since I first ordered my 03 SRT) So I'm thinking the 07 is the way to go, but we'll see.

Regards,

I've heard up to 600 HP for the '07 from a fairly reliable source, so take it for what it's worth. I know about 6 or 8 months ago there was an engineering V-10 at SRT that pulled 700 HP on the dyno - not sure if it was a prototype for the upcoming engine or not...

It's not as if they are going to announce a HP increase for 2007 now, they might want to actually sell some '06's. Who would buy one?

Thanks Paul but my plans do not include selling any of my current Vipers. If I did my '96 would be the last one to go.

I may or may not go through with the purchase of the new coupe. I'll see what it has when it actually arrives. My source (who sold me the FE GTS) claimed that in '07 we would see 650 to 675 HP with traction control and 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds. It would be a shame to buy the '06 only to have to unload it for the '07 and take a big hit on depreciation. What is a guy to do?

They make that car with 650 and traction control (dunno what I think about trac control, slippery slope to a vette), and get to 60 under 3, AND be able to pass emissions, I'd be one of the first in line to buy that puppy.

Bob K,
I placed my order back in February, Iam getting the only one this dealership is scheduled to recieve..

Business Manager states he will need to process my check in August, about the time he expects to recieve the Vin# on my new coupe.

Wait till 07 to buy? No I dought it, do not want to gamble with possibly not getting the B/W combo..

My 2 cents,HP increase? it will be 2009-2010 before the next body change, I believe a good HP will accur then...possibly a new roadster, hey crazier things have been done by DC...

Iam a Viper die hard, I would not care if Vettes had 600hp, and sold at 50k. You can have my Viper when you can get my cold dead fingers from around the steering wheel....Thanks DC for building the new coupe, look forward to possibly the next gen roadster....if the past is any indication of the future, I think it is not over for DC....Remember it took the father of Viper to create its competitor...

And since the father of the Viper left DC the SRT has not exactly set the world on fire and now the Z06 has more peak HP and is quicker and Lutz is still at GM. How does this make you think it is not over for DC?

Lutz needs to leave the loser GM and start his own car company... give Saleen a run for it's money... for a fraction of the price. I'd be first in line. Heck, I'd even line up some investors! :2tu:

Its called a horsepower war. When the MUSTANG GT 500 comes out it will have 475hp. That is more power than the Gen 1 & Gen 2 Vipers.....from a MUSTANG!!
Its not "over" for anyone...the war is just heating up!

I heard from someone I know who is "in the know" at chrysler that in 07 there will be a HP bump, but he didn't know details. I figure even if there is a HP bump, just buy an 06 and then sell if you want an 07

I heard this same thing at the SRT Track Experience last weekend. There is a horsepower jump coming but they can't release that info lest they kill sales of the '06.

I heard from "someone in the know" at GM that Dave Hill said "he saw Lutz doing 8-balls" in the executive washroom at Bowling Green!

Doing coke and trying to import $24mil in coke are not quite the same. Although from an investor's standpoint, neither actions are desirable. Here's to hearsay! :usa:
