The article about brakes Viper Magazine didn\'t want to print...

I wrote a mostly informative, historical, somewhat instructive article (with some sources for parts and part numbers) about the Viper non-ABS rear brake calipers. It's only mildly self-serving, I thought, and certainly no more than other vendor articles that have been previously published. Anyway, I take the non-reply as meaning they don't want to. If anyone would like a copy, email or PM me your email address.

As in the distant past, I also have instructions on how to disassemble and reassemble them. To date, I've sent many copies out and think of only three people that have done it! If you need local help, you can always ask your brake rebuilder if they do 1990-era Renault Alliance or FWD Dodge Monaco, or the new Lotus Elise brakes - they are all the same Brembo design.

Yes, please send me a copy. I would like to keep a copy just in case one of our members needs help.

Thanks a lot for your efforts, Tom.

I would like that Tom. What is the overall scope of the article?

You should post it here since it will get more eyes than Viper magazine. PM sent.

Tom, can you scan it in so we could post it in the illustrated upgrades section. It may not be illustrated or an upgrade but it sounds valuable.

Seems a shame. Everyone wants more technical info in the mag.

1) I always read EVERYTHING I can get my hands on by Tom H.

2) The ATTORNEYS at Dodge wont allow it. Liability issues aside, all their replies must be "buy MoPar" and go to a Dodge Dealer for help.

3) If you think this website gets more reads than Viper Magazine I have a Gen 5 Viper prototype to sell you. The proof will be at the top of this thread. Even lurker-looks are counted, tho they don't post. I actually believe that about 10% of Viper owners read this site regularly...and it appears to be 90% of those are the SAME FOLKS day in, day out.

4) Tom's ARTICLE will inform more people than a watered-down VM article that they cannot publish anyway.

Why not have it in VCA Notes, which states on the cover to not have any DC endorsement or support.

Awesome, PM sent. Next time I see your car I will clean one of your wheels for you. I remember your car from Tators and the Zone Rendezvous in 05.

Re: The article about brakes Viper Magazine didn\'t want to print...

Rebuilding brakes is relatively easy, though with multi-piston calipers you need to custom build a tool with a few materials.
When I have done the (temporary) brake job on my Calibra I'm gonna take all four claws off my car again and put a pair of powdercoated better ones + larger discs from the 16v turbo model on the front, doing it totally without any help just by self learning :D That's how easy it is.
I would explain the principle a little further but then I would take away most of Tom's article

That's insane. Isn't this a publication by the Viper club? Why should it have any relevance whatsoever to Dodge and liability?

Re: The article about brakes Viper Magazine didn\'t want to print...

PM sent, thanks Tom.

It's a shame that corporate America puts a stop to informative things like this at Viper Magazine. It has to be "pro-Mopar" the whole way.

Other magazines like Mopar Action, Hot Rod, etc...all manage to have "how to" features without the fear of liability.
