Well it has finally started!!!!!

AEM is now fitted and the Extra earth wires are fitted into the factory harness pins...

Ordered some OE material tape to make it all look factory..

AEM 16 in 1 Digital gauge is now here and plugs into the OBD2 Port so no wiring needed there apart from Ign + and a good ground...

Baz,

Although the base map in the AEM is a good start, it is far from perfect. You need to tune your car, it will be worth a good bit of power. The map was made on a stock 1997 car which only made 422rwhp after tune.

On my car tune over the base map was worth 15rwhp and even more torque.

ps. Build? It took me 30 min to install the AEM unit, you make it sound difficult.

The AEM was in in half hour as you say ..
But i got a bunch of other stuff going on as well...I wanted to get the AEM runing on a stock motor first..

The AEM is good. I really enjoy mine. Even after tweeking it alot, I still need a little more tweeking in the idle to 2000rpm range. While I didn't pick up any more power over my Split Sec, it did help with driveablity.

If anyone has a good base map, I'd love to have a look at it. I have ported heads and 708-ish cam, headers, exhaust.

Baz...if you need the round graphite gaskets for your Borla header collector area, Dan at DC Performance has them. He saved me when mine blew out a few years back. FYI.

That must be complete the assembly with rings, wrist pins, rods, ecetera... My manual indicates the rods are 758 grams and the pistons are 447-461 grams.

Are you doing the build yourself?

I assume if your not doing anything to the heads, they do not have to be removed when replacing the piston/rods and a balance is only needed if the new pistons/rods weight is different?

Yes, I think the heads do have to come off. Pistons are generally installed from the top. That's how the piston ring compressors work. Its probably a good idea to hone the cylinders too.
