For anyone going to the Formula 1 race at Indy this year (June 20th) there will be special parking for Vipers.

Is anyone else going? I would hate to be the only Viper in the lot...

YES !!! And, there is a "walk around pit" day Thur. June 17th, cruises both nights before the race (Fri., Sat.), etc. Feel free to contact me for the specifics, or any necessary help...but do so ASAP as credentials are REQUIRED for the "pit day" and for thecorrals on Sat. June 19th and Sun. June 20th.

Thanks for the reminder, Bob: The Pit walkabout day will require one to show a race day ticket this year, and NOT a separate pass.

I would add that the corral parking on Sat and Sun. is a sweet deal...can't get any closer to the action as the corral is on pavement that is used as the back straightaway for the Indy 500 and the Brickyard 400...AND, one can come and go !!!

No biggie...would just try to hook you up with one of those participating...call me anytime, though I'll have a better idea of Viper participation closer to the race (you KNOW how evasive Viper folks can be as they try to second guess the weather).

Looks like several more folks will be joining the group!!!

If you are staying in Indy "downtown" area, take advantage of the police escorts to to track earlySunday AM (June 20)for those displaying Car Club Corral Passes.

For those CAR CLUB MEMBERS holding F1 tickets, but NO corral pass, call the IMS ticket office ( 1-800-822-INDY) and CONFIRM that you are in a "car club...VIPER Club", and that you will need a corral pass sent ASAP. If you have trouble getting this done, let me know.

The Friday and Saturday Car Club Cruises will start at 7:45 PM (EST) both evenings...should be a ton of great cars going....heck, I may even show up, even though that's close to my bedtime :D :D :D

I flew all the way out from California and never saw any of the VCA group. I sure wish I knew you were all there.

What a great race!

I was there for 4 days and the only Viper I saw was a blue and white GTS that looked like it had not been washed in 6 months.

I saw 3 Vipers in the corral Sat, and 7 on Sunday DURING the race. Many members left their Vipers at home. Hopefully, now that they have scouted out the ease of track entry and parking on Sat and Sun., MORE will be inclined to bring their Viper next year.

Secure parking at the race was great, this is a must do next year,,,,,,,,

It was a blast, and the best part was seeing the end of the race hang by the car for 10 minutes and hit NO traffic on the way out,,,,,,

Sign up early for next year

Guys, if YOU want more Viper events/opportunities...and (god forbid) COMMIT to same (as in say "yes" and bond word with $$$), we can organize many more activities as part of the USGP f1 week...several of us did have a weeks worth of things to do...and even though ALL were invited, few showed.

We can easily have a downtown event for VIPERS...secured parking for a mini show, prearranged dinner...and, yes, even indoor parking if you want it as a "storm option". We have had LITTLE interest expressed locally for this event in the past, however this can be changed IF folks will come. At this time, all options are open (along with a few additional ideas). Let us know what you want/need so that we can guage Viper owner interest.

Thanks.

Steve - I, for one, would be really interested. I plan to come next year from Baltimore. If you can arrange, say, a Friday and/or Saturday eve mini-show, and dinner, and parking for the race on Sunday, I would be happy to put up the required $$. It would be really great if we could get tickets through the club in a block so we could all sit together for qualifying, and the race. I tried to make plans to come this year, but the fact that it fell on Father's Day made it difficult for me to attend.

Thanks for your interest and suggestions, Gus. I'm told that the Ferrari Club and the Porsche Club buy 300-400 tickets at a time...which must be done early (as in June 21, 2004)...and, they are great seats, noting that their history with this race goes back to it's beginning in 2000.

When, in the past, I have inquired at the Nat'l VCA HDQ, and via the Nat'l Officers about making this a larger event, I was encouraged to make it a regional event of whatever magnitude possible...and "host" as I saw fit to those who wanted to come. There were a few folks who took me up on the offer for info this year, but little interest amoungst local members or neighboring regions.
Frankly, locally there is MORE interest in the VCa for this type of event for the Brickyard and possibly for the Indy 500. The Indpls. Motor Speedway folks have been great...and made MANY procedural, security, ticketing, and PAVED PARKING changes just to accomodate the Car Clubs. BMW, the MINIClub, Subaru, British clubs also have stepped their support. There is plenty of room to GROW, in my opinion. But all of my B.S. will NOT fill the parking lot with Vipers if "locals" won't go and the "out of towners" won't bring their car...and, YES, they get dirty, but to his credit, Bob DID DRIVE his GTS from Chicago.
In the past, rooms were tight...butnow, rooms are much easier.

WHO wants to bankroll 300 tickets at $90.00-125.00 apiece? Let me know and we can start a group buy tomorrow.

Bottom line...this COULD BE a fun event, but I can't force folks to participate.

P.S. NEVER underestimate the behind the scenes politics/sponsorship of racing in general, and F1 in particular...there are more forces at play among the manufacturers/promotors/etc. than a regular person would ever dream.

The "lines are open"...
