Viper Speedo Question

I have a 2005 SRT. Is the cars mileage stored in the instument cluster or in the car's computer? I was thinking of changing the clusters backgrounds and did'nt know if I put a new cluster in if the mileage would stay correct. Any thoughts?

the mileage and VIN is stored in both the PCM and the BCM. the PCM is only a mileage record. the BCM is what transmits mileage to the instument cluster. On the other hand, the cluster gets the VIN number from the PCM, not the BCM. In short, yes a new cluster will show the correct mileage and VIN once plugged into a new car.
