Viper WINS Compct Car\'s \"Ultimate Streetcar Shootout\"

The Viper was the only american car there amongst a sea of ricers. I went to Cali Speedway yesterday and met up with Paul Mumford and his Viper "Big Boy". Out of 200 cars voted on in Compact Car magazine the cream of the crop was there. Turbos, superchargers, cars with TWO motors it was a sight to behold. The Viper pretty much dominated all the performance catagories and lost in the BS catagories like gas milage and MSRP. In the road course event on a 1.1 mile track Paul's Viper was like 8 seconds faster then 2nd place

.

2nd place went to a Skyline and 3rd to a turboed Supra.

VIPER IS KING!!!!!!!!

Mum's da word!!!!

Alot of us would have laid odds on Paul decimating the group, but it is a pleasure to shout it loud , " Vipers Rule!"

Way to go Paul, you are the SnakeMaster!

Yeah, way to go Mumford. Pick your battles wisely, just like going to Thunderhill with the Miata club! Ooops that was me and the Schleys.

Great job buddy! Sounds like it would have been an easy win with the Porsche too.

They gave the "Grose exhibition of speed award" to the Supra. Let me tell you, PMUM shreaded a set of Hoosiers with his little routine. The crowd went wild...It could not have been done without help from Eric Messley's 6:30 am alignment on Sunday, Dan and Chris's PCM program (among other things) from the Viper Shop, and Andy Bondio's last minute fab work, great job guys. I'm certain next year will be even tougher since American power won this time.dj

What I don't understand about the Ultimate Streetcar Shootout is this:

"Ultimate",
They deduct points from your car if it's too expensive, how can you have ultimate cars if MSRP cost is a factor?

"Streetcar",
Every one of these cars with the exception of Paul's Viper ran on 110 octane fuel, not pump gas, this is a streetcar?

"Shootout",
They make you drive around a 65 mile loop to check your gas milage (Viper came in last) now that's a shootout!

Oh well despite themselves the best car (and driver) won.

Congats Paul! The best thing about all this was Paul's quote in the magazine before the vote. It was something like... "Pick me and there will never be a reason to have this contest again"... or something like that.

To make that comment, get voted in, and then proceed to whup everyone's **** is priceless.

Congrats PMUM!

His quote from the magazine was:

"After seeing the stock 360 Modena take the field, I know my Viper will not only win, but it will dominate so utterly that you won't have to bother running this contest again."

Mumdog sweeps the floor with his big tail and proves to all that he is the BIG DOG.

Way to go man!

Also, thanks to those dedicated souls who helped Paul set up to clean up. You know who you are... (can Mumford even change his own brake pads yet?)

Paul change brake pads? Pfffff! He doesn't even wash the car. Last I saw, Deering was helping Mumford figure out where you put gas in the car.

Way to go Mumford!

Hell, if he was 8 seconds faster he didn't need to change his pads,as obviously he wasn't bothering to use his brakes, ha!

Anyway, he could probably do it, since the StopTechs are easy to change!
