It’s official! With the announcement of the next Viper Owners Invitational to be held in Detroit, Aug. 27–30, 2008, that brings the number of these major Viper blowouts to a perfect 10, or to put it another way, one max party to go with every cylinder in our favorite engine. VOI.10 (That really has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?) is coming home to the Motor City.

VOI.10 Highlights
Whether you caravan, trailer your Viper or just hop on a plane, once you get to Detroit, there is a whirlwind of activities scheduled for the event. Attendees and their guests will stay at Detroit’s two newest luxury establishments—the MGM Grand Casino and Hotel and the Motor City Casino and Hotel. Completed within the last year, both of these hotels offer first-class accommodations and easy access to Detroit’s casinos as well as other citywide attractions.

One of the most anticipated activities of VOI.10 will be the tour of the Viper owner’s Promised Land—the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant where Vipers have been built since 1996. After arriving on Wednesday, VOI.10 attendees will get guided tours of the facility and see up close how each Viper is carefully assembled by some of the most skilled craftspeople in the auto industry. Ask anyone who has already taken this tour—it’s an experience you’ll never forget. Thursday and Friday will also include driving events that will allow Viper owners to show off their skills behind the wheel.

In addition, the timing of this event includes the Detroit Grand Prix, scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 29 to Sept. 1. Those who come to VOI.10 will be able to attend the event and watch competitors from all over the world take on the challenging Belle Isle race course. Viper owners who attended the Detroit Grand Prix in 2007 said it was one of the best times they’ve ever had.

Back at the hotels, both Dodge and the VCA have planned spectacular banquets with an incredible array of food and beverage along with some top-notch entertainment. These social events are a great way for you to renew friendships and relive the glory of the day’s events.

Plans are also well underway for an exciting Viperabilia exhibit and those who have attended in the past know that this is always one of the most popular attractions at a Viper Owners Invitational. Suppliers and vendors will be on hand with many unique and fascinating items that a discriminating Viper owner will just have to have.

Make Plans Now to Attend
As we said, all roads lead to Detroit. We will be sending more information by the beginning of March on how to register, so stay tuned. It’s time for your Viper to come home and we hope to see you and all of your Viper friends in Detroit this August.

Bob Carroll - National VCA President
George Farris - National VCA Vice President
Chris Marshall - National VCA Treasurer
Jeff Pilgrim - National VCA Secretary

Glad the official word finally came down. Looks like everyone who goes should have a great time...

Also, no track events at VOI.10?

We (Chrysler, JRT, & the VCA) are still working out some of the details, but it will be pretty darn impressive. Just make sure you keep your speed up during the loop-the-loop! :D

In the spirit of that... how about a non-track price? Some spouses might want to be at the dinners and such, but not care to be at the track. No sense paying full price for non-use.

I am absolutely THERE!! Still mad at myself for not going to VOI 9 in Vegas. While Detroit is no Vegas, at least the hotel and main venue is a casino.

3.5 hours and I'm driving it. This will be the furthest my car has been away from home since birth. How ironic that it's actually going back to where it was born! Cool. :2tu:

And that folks, is one of the main reasons we opted for Detroit. Not only are there a bazillion car-related activities in Detroit, but the Viper itself is created there. Ask the folks that went to Saleen last year during the Belle Isle event if they enjoyed it. Then throw in CAAP and who knows what else and this is the Viper event of a lifetime.

Which brings up another point: The Viper's "lifetime" is a subject of much speculation right now. Some are saying it is dead next year, others 2011, others say this is the last year. Hopefully ALL are wrong and the Viper will be produced forever and a day. What better way is there to demonstrate to Chrysler just how much the Viper means to us then by descending upon ts birthplace with 800+ Vipers? And think of those CAAP workers that haven't seen Vipers in such masses since they first went off the line - what a treat for everybody!

This is not only an opportunity for Viper owners to see all things Viper, but is a golden opportunity for those same owners to show Chrysler just how important the Viper is to them. They could be having this in a trailer with peanut butter sandwiches for the main entree - I would happily pay to go just for the chance to influence the future of the Viper program as a whole. If the rumors are true, then this just may be the last chance.

If I could make a small request: LOTS OF PICTURES! I will be with a fellow colleague of mine in Maryland at the PRS guitar factory that week. If we make it in time, we will hopefully be able to drive back to our hometown through Detroit and see perhaps one or two Vipers from VOI 10. My colleague is a car guy and likes the Viper, yet hasn't seen one in person....ever. As we are just enthusiasts we can't go to the event but hopefully we will see/hear someone blast by us on a highway.

Just a quick question. Since I moved back to Hawaii and it would not make financial sense to ship my Viper there for this event, do you know if Dodge will have Vipers for the track events like VOI9?

Thanks

I think that is pretty safe to assume, given the number of folks that come from overseas without their cars...

at Dallas it was a bit of a nonsense for us without our cars, recall there was 5 SRT's available we waited quite some time Joel and i had the most viper seat time from our region about 4.5 minutes in total just x2 laps around the speedway ( I remember one of our female members waited nearly 2 hours for the speedway and gave up) we got x3 laps around the autocross.

Dont think it helped that a couple of the SRT's then broke down, so the swap over day had it even worse...
It wasnt just overseas, lots of US people were in the same queue perhaps they didnt fancy tracking their own
vehicle or to far a drive from home

Regarding the Corporate (& Skip Barber?) Vipers for us - without own Viper there:

Nashville was O.K.,
Dallas was so-la-la...,
Las Vegas was top notch!

This year it is only three days and in Detroit of all places??
I know it is cheaper for Chrysler to do this in Detroit due to the logistics of all of this but lets think about this…

Who the hell goes to Detroit for any reason?
They are saying the cost for members may be up this time?
For the first time ever the national will have to chip in?
They are going to split us up between two hotels?
Know body knows what kind of track activities are happening?

Don’t get me wrong on this; I am glad they are having a VOI10.
I am just afraid that they are only having this because it is the tenth and they feel they have to. I am afraid this will end up no better than an excuse to go out on a good number (VOI10 / V10)
I would be willing to bet that this is the last VOI and that is the reason I am going.
I don’t think for a second that it will be anywhere near as good as Vegas was.

Hopefully I have a surprise coming to me…..

Not only is this a chance for Dodge to do something nice for the loyal ViperNation, but also a chance for us to do something for our proud creators.

Having a thousand Viper loyalists back to the Motor City to show everybody what Chrysler has accomplished. A huge show of force and loyality to the city that put the world on wheels.

We will come, tour the sights, see the factory, spend our money, make new friends, and cement old relationships.

Chrysler, thanks for the invitation. We appreciate the huge gesture of good faith for the faithful.

We are coming back into the fold.

VOI 10 in Motor City. What could be better.

With the unfortunate mishap in Las Vegas (VOI 9) with a Skip Barber instructor, do you know if Barber will still be there for VOI 10 at the track event? Hope so anyway.

Can anyone comment whether the MGM or the Motor City hotel is a better choice if you need to park a truck towing an enclosed trailer?

Just got off the phone with JRT if you haven't already talked with them.

There will be an off site area with security and a shuttle for people with trailers.
Right now the rooms reserved for members at the Motor City Hotel are full. You can still get a room there but it will be a regular rate.
The MGM still has rooms at the negotiated rates for members.

Time to get signed up for VOI!
