What length rich detert shift shaft do I get for \'02 shift knob?

I plan to buy the rich detert shifter shaft but his website does not address the issue of a stock '02 shifter knob. It only shows the older pistol grip type stock shift knobs. If I use the '02 stock knob, will it be like the MGW knob height? or what? I think I want to get the 3" shaft but is it too short?
Thanks

wont know until you try it out...shifter length preference is completely objective.

Search the media section for my username. I used a 2" shaft, and it's perfect for the '99-'02 knobs... not too short.

But if I use the 3" shaft will the overall length be like the pistol grip shifter with the 3" shaft, or the MGW with the 3" shaft. The MGW with the 3" shaft is too short for me.

Thanks Crom, for the pics. 3" looks good. Does the shaft come silver color, like the OEM piece?

I thought I read some where on here that you couldn't get the stock shift knob off the shaft. From this threat it sounds like you can. Is it that you just have to take the shaft and knob off together before you can seperate them?

Go with the 3" and the stock knob. I have had a few shifters and it really has a great feel.

Many don't like the stock knobs in the latter Gen IIs, but I think they look and feel good. The MAJOR problem was the height...3" fixes it!!!

You can't separate the ball and shaft. Rich's shaft replaces the lower part of the shifting assembly that the stock ball/shaft screw back into and that shortens the overall height.

Someone wrote this in the link above...
I have a '99GTS w/ Detert's shifter installed. Had the Viper tech do it. He said it took him only a few minutes to do, but I believe he did it from the bottom while the car was on a lift. The dealer didn't even charge me he did it so quickly, while oil was being changed. If you want the tech's name and phone number at the dealer, email me.

I thought I saw another post that showed you need to remove the assembly around the shifter, the boot, etc.
