I'm planning on getting 3:73 gears for street driving only. Speed limit in IL. is 65 and I want to be able to use 6th gear.

The trade off with anything to radical is running out of gear and a mandated shift into the .74 5th overdrive too soon. imo, 3.33's work quite well with the stock trans ratios and additional power of the Gen4 and 3.55's in the Gen3...

I went with 3.55 based on my research. Haven't driven the car since they were installed...no snow chains. :dunno:

had 3:73 3:55 and the stock 3:07 Personally I like the 3:55 wife likes the 3:73. She enjoys being pushed back in her seat. Got to love it. I prefer the 3:55 but had trouble with my unitrax gears. I think the Dana 44 3:55's are the only way to go.

If you can, please describe your impressions of driving with 3.55s and 3.73s? What are your perceived pros and cons of each? Were the gears on an 08?

Thanks,

3;73 = F15 WITH BOTH AFTERBURNERS ON 3;55 = F15 WITHOUT THEM ON.
I am running 3:73 now and like the gears for driving around my area and in town much easier than the stock gears. I had 3:55 gears also but had trouble with the unitrax whinning to much. I also liked that gear. Pretty responsive as well and easy to drive with less shifting. On the drag strip 3:73 you will finish in 4th. 3:55 finish in 3rd gear. I actually had better times with the 3:55 since it hooked up better and one less shift. I am going to try starting in 2nd gear with the 3:73 and see. I think on an 08 with all the additional HP 3:55 would be the gear to use.

I flat out loved the 3:73 but, way less practical than the 3:55's RPM is higher and use 6th gear all the time with the 3:73's . It just seems to me with all that additional HP what? 600+ I think you will smoke the tires with these gears and even at higher speeds. It revs up fairly quick. It's not hard to do. (careful) As for long distance driving the oils in the diff. get hot so you may think about a cooler. There are setup for one already. my car is and I beleive Patrs rack has them.. So there are my thoughts.

Depends on tire size and power level.

In a stock 2008, I'd go with the 3.33's and OE rear tire sizes.

3.55's are fun around town, but lots of shifting.

What is the best rear gear ratio for a stock 2006 SRT10 , not for the track ?

My 1st 06 stock I changed to 3:73's. Simply put, It made the car. On my present 06 Paxton,I went to 3:55's. Go with the 3:73's, but be careful with any gear change as the rear end will come around much quicker.

You know guys you really can't go wrong if you want to wake the car up a little. I think there may be too much obsessing over this and I did not want that. The 3.73 is definitely not for everyone although it is a total HOOOOOOT! :headbang::drive:The 3.55 will get you most of the same thing and be more controllable. The 3.33 is still loved by the drag racers in the group and the 3.07 well I just don't like it but that's me.

I put 3.33s in my 06 and couldnt tell the difference. I definitely dont want that to happen again. I felt like I just wasted my money. That said, I think the 3.55 in my 08 are the way to go.

Mark, those 3.33's you put in my ACR are perfect! way different than the 3.07's. I'm still thinking of trying the 3.55's in my SC 06 car just to see how wild it gets. I'm just wondering with the TC installed and the SC if it will always be on the cut out spinning the tires or not. That's why I'm thinking the tires need to change at the same time. along with fixing the wheel hop. Also, I keep forgetting to tell you how I noticed the Alum flywheel and the difference it made. It accelerates quicker than my other car.

Don't know for sure about that but if I get more than 10-12 mpg I feel like I wasted my money on the car! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Maybe won't get that if i did short hwy drives but I have gotten that. Someone with a gen 2 locally put 3:55s in and said he got the same in the city but not sure on the hwy. Suppose all ya have heavy foot lol. Sorry tryin to keep my ass outta trouble:D need to keep my insurance down
