With the Manufacturer's Championship up for grabs, it appeared that the Snakes would be able to slither around the Monterey Penisula track with venomous results, since 4 of the Privateer Teams were in the top 10 Driver Standings. Unfortunately, like last year, the Comp Coupes could not dodge out of the way of the Cadillacs, as it became a slugfest in the same vein as 2005s ultimate fight. Woodhouse was wedged into a wall by a black CTSV, and his tire and suspension damage limited his run, though frenetic work by his crew enabled him to finish 14 laps and end up in 30th. Tommy Archer had a suspension component break late in the race, but he managed to wheel the Viper to a 6th spot at the finish. With the carnage amongst the Comp Coupes, it became apparent , early on, that it was going to be tough to hold on to the Manufacturer's Championship , and in the end the Privateers had the distinction of coming within 3 points of the winner, Porsche, while sneaking by the other Factory Team, Cadillac , by 1 point, securing the 2nd spot on the dias. Considering the fact that our Comp Coupe drivers are all gentleman racers , instead of full time Pros ( with the exception of Tommy Archer, who happens to be both a Pro and a gentleman ), it is amazing that 4 of the top ten drivers come from the Viper ranks. What is even more outstanding, is that all three are Viper Racing League ( Viper Days )alums, and this lends tons of credibility to this series.

Below is the finishing order for the Laguna Seca race, along with the Season's Final Standings for Viper drivers in the top ten positions.

Vipers in Monterey-----
6. Tommy Archer
11. Rob Foster
13. Jim McCann
14. Mike McCann
15. Brett Pearson
20. Stu Frederick
23. Al Becera
26. Joel Feinberg
30. Bob Woodhouse
32. Ritch Marziale

Year End Standings----
5. Tommy Archer
6. Mike McCann
7. Bob Woodhouse
9. Rob Foster

Team of the Year ( GT Class ) --- Woodhouse Auto Family Racing , Crew Chief Rick Maxwell, crew Nancy Shanno

Team of the Year ( Touring Car Class ) --- 3R Racing Team and their SRT4s.

Respectfully Submitted,
Bill Pemberton :2tu:

It was a good race, but there were definatley alot of cars going off course. I love sitting there hearing the cars roar thru the corkscrew. Congrats to all the Viper racers, it was awesome seeing so many Comp coupes out there.

Congrats to all the Vipers. Y'all did us very proud.

Manufacture points standings
Porsche 59
Viper 56
Caddy 55
Vette somewhere waaaaay down the list.

As important as first place is, beating those grandma cars from GM really feels good. I'm looking forward to next year.

Congrats to a very good year for the vipers but special congrats to Bob Woodhouse and his team. A 7th place finish for the season is outstanding!

I hope he comes back for more next year along with the other viper teams.

Thanks Bill for the full report. Boy, was that a fun race to watch!! There was so much going on every single lap. All the Viper drivers put on a great show and a valiant effort towards the Manufacture Championship. :nana:

I think that race is going to be awesome on TV.

McCann supposedly got black flagged for hitting a Caddy, I believe. Similar to the announcer stating Woodhouse ran into a Caddy, whereas the Caddy ran Bob W. into a wall-------and he has da film to prove it.

Sad to say with the way Mike was running, that probably dropped us the points that he could have gotten, and may have been what caused us miss the Manufacturer's Championship. We will have to see the rebroadcast this weekend, but some of the cameras there are at odd angles and do not shoot straight at the accident sites , so it may still be up for speculation. Either way , exciting Season, tough for the the guys to have such a rough race, but then there are always incidents that are missed or interpreted differently, so who is to say who is right or wrong, just tough luck.

With 4 of the top 10 Drivers in personally owned Comp Coupes it is a strong testament of the Viper, no matter how you look at it.
