    Vin#s do not correlate to build sequence. When there is an order for a vehicle (this is simplified) it gets a vin then the scheduler decides when the car gets built and receives a sequence # and is built in that order.     The exhaust expands 1/2 to 3/4” when hot. You should put the outlet about 1/4” from the front of the opening when cold. You will melt your wheel well liner from the hot exhaust With spirited driving. You may have to tack weld the joints to prevent it slipping.

    Vin Sequence

    Scheduler assigns the cars to be built, an order can have a vin but depending on options it may be built later than newer orders. The sequence number tracks the car around the plant in order. Generally lower vin numbers are built early but they do not determine build order.

    Even OEM’s use things such as that foam between parts to stop BSR (buzz, squeak, and rattle). My guess is that the last shop that worked on it put it there for that purpose.
