Lets see, lighter, more aerodynamic, more torque, more HP, better rubber, and quite a bit more brake? Sounds like the numbers will be staggering.

I never thought I would say this, but it looks like our current Viper's will be a bridesmaid, at the very least.

I would not be surprised to see this Viper go from 0-100-0 faster than any other production car ever produced. You can be certain that it will have the best numbers of any car ever produced for under $100,000. Yeah Baby!!!!!!

The Chapter 3 Viper should all but eliminate the last few strands of hair I have remaining on my scalp!

Just for kicks, I inputted the data for the '03 car into "cartest" to get some performance estimates. I had to make a series of assumptions, which I state here:

HP: 50 more than a Gen-II car
Torque: 10 more than a Gen-II car
Gearing: same internal gearing as a Gen-II car, except 3.45 rear end to compensate for the larger rear wheel.
Aerodynamics: Drag coefficient of .43 (halfway between the '01 RT/10 and '01 GTS)
Weight distribution: 49/51, same as current RT/10

Performance estimates:
0-60: .3 sec improvement, or 3.7sec
0-100: .8 sec improvement (gearing advantage), or 8.8 sec.
0-1/4 mi: .3 sec and 4 MPH improvement, or 11.7 @ 122
Top speed: 6 mph faster than an '01 RT/10, or 174 MPH.

Should be a screamer

I thought the 97 GTS did a top end of 187 in a test. I would guess close two 200 mph top end no? I here a Vette with 500 hp will get **** close to it. What is the current wieght of GTS?

Correct, the GTS tops out at 187. The GTS also has a coefficient of drag of 0.35; the RT/10 has 0.51, which is akin to a brick wall, and a top speed of 167. I assumed the '03 ragtop would have a 0.43 cd, which coupled with the extra HP and the 10" of additional width, gives it a top speed of 174.

FWIW, a GTS with 50 extra HP would "only" go about 191 mph. Extra speed takes a LOT of horsepower at these levels. To hit 200 MPH, as discussed in a different thread, would take about 620 HP.

Motor Trend tested a stock 98 GTS in their high performance shootout (May 98 issue). Tearing around a 5 mile banked oval it won that test by clocking 192.6 mph. YEAH BABY!

I think you're way off on your aerodynamic estimation AND your top speed.

FYI, the first 1/3 or so of the roof on the 2003 is SOLID, just covered in canvas for cosmetic continuity (and weatherproofing of course). The majority of the belly of this awesome Snake is sealed and the car was designed from the beginning as a Le Mans contender.

Remember, not that speedometers reflect top speed, but the 2003 has a 220 MPH speedo...

In this instance, I'd prefer to be wrong

However, the new Viper is both wider and taller than the current GTS, and the "cab-rearward" design doesn't help aerodynamics. Even if the new car has the same CD as the current GTS (.35), it will top out in the high 180s. With a CD of .32 (very unlikely) it would have a top speed of 193.
