Just a recommendation for an ending date to help "ab" out a bit with his planning. This issue has come up on other posts for months so folks should know relatively quickly if they are serious or not. Sure, there are new members jumping in that I should consider so I appologize to them as they weigh all the information on this proposition. Don't want to leave anyone behind!! Been burned on too many "great ideas" that simply peeter'd out when I was committed all the way. No real hurry, just trying to keep the ball rolling.

Well, I just went out and measured my garage for all the dimensions, and it looks like this isn't going to happen for me. I'd only be able to get the lift deck up around 56 inches off the ground. Even with a ground clearance of 5 inches, that puts the bottom of the car at 61". I'm 76" tall, so working under the car would be almost impossible.

kcobean - my garage has shorter ceilings than yours and I have a lift in there. sure, you can't stand up straight, but you can do pretty much anything that you need to do under there.

if you don't want one, don't blame it on short ceilings!

I've pulled motors, swapped pistons, changed exhausts, custom built supercharger systems, replaced clutches, and even changed oil on my lift!

Exactly what I was thinking. Any sort of lift has to be better than a floor jack and jack stands and laying on a cold garage floor.

Plus, there are many types of mechanic's chairs for those lift owners who can't get it up all the way, so to speak.

I'd like to get in on this group buy except for two things:

1. I'm still waiting for the garage door contractor to come out and give me a bid on raising the tracks closer to the 10'-5" ceiling height. He says he can probably do it for a low cost without moving the springs or installing new drums and I'll even be able to keep my central pull door opener. I want to see it in writing first.

2. I think this group buy is for VCA members only. I originally sent in my app on July 19 and am still waiting.


If I miss out on this one there will probably be others within the next year.

I'm not making excuses thank you very much. I would love to have a lift in my garage, but I'm not willing to stand with my feet 4 feet apart and bent over backwards to work on my car.

Is the Mechanics Chair a real alternative from a functionality standpoint? If it's not, I'd be wasting my money.

Mr. Hemi Head, that is a possibility. I'd have to get up in the space over my garage to see how it's put together and figure out how much cutting I'd have to do. I think the ceiling joists are every 16 inches which means I'd have to cut 4 or 5 of them. I'm no structural engineer, but I think that would not be good for the rigidity of my garage.
