I'm curious if anyone knows the maximum speed attainable in each gear with a Viper with the stock 3.07 rear with stock tire sizes. Where can I find this information? Thanks!

3.31 **** 54 ********** 70 ********** 105 ********** 140 ********** 189 ********* 280 mph

3.55 **** 50 ********** 66 ********** 99 *********** 131 ********** 177 ********* 262 mph

3.73 **** 48 ********** 63 ********** 94 *********** 124 ********** 168 ********* 249 mph

Thanks GoldenVenom. Nice '02 by the way. ; )

Does 151 mph for 4th gear on a 3.07 rear end seems high to you as well?. I was thinking more along the lines of 13X mph to the top of 4th gear.

Thanks Fast Freddy. I'm assuming, from reading your signature, that you can confirm the above speeds in each gear?

Great link ruckdr. Thanks. It looks like if you shift out of 3rd and 4th gears at around 5200 to 5300 rpm, your doing around 102 mph and 130 mph, respectively. Taking the revs up to 5800 rpm in 3rd and 4th gears drastically changes things. At those rpm you're doing around 115 and close to 150 mph respectively.

Now the question is, which method is going to prove the best for an all-out straight line race? I've heard some guys say the best method for 1/4 mile racing is to shift around 5200 to 5400; taking the V10 to redline is not helpful in lowering the ET through the 1/4. What about for an all-out speed race though?

Theif !! I get credit for that link !!

As see here: http://vca2.viperclub.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB14&Number=491350&Forum=All_Forums&Words=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.xse.com&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=allposts&Main=491312&Search=true#Post491350

:)

BTW.. so you know, the guys who have respectable 1/4 mile times are the ones you should listen to.

I run my pig right into the yellow, and switch gears before it gets to red line, so I effectively use my "yellow" section as my shift point, and I gotta say, 11.50's at 124 mph is pretty damn good on stock OEM pilot sports.

A street race and a drag race are they SAME thing, as long as you have good traction, I would only short shift on the street, if you are having traction issues.

Am I to understand that with a stock rear end gear of 3.07 (3.08) my car will do 204MPH at the top of 5th gear, and then increase 98 more MPH if I could tach-out 6th ? I have not followd the provided links yet, but will now to investigate. I have never personally seen specs posted above the high 190MPH range as a top speed in any gear.

01sapphireGTS... The top speeds you listed are correct... if you neglect drag. The top-speed in a stock Viper is achieved in 5th gear. In 6th gear, there is not enough torque at the rear wheels to go faster than what can be achieved in 5th gear.

Jon,
I was thinking that in the 1/4 mile, your main purpose to get to the end of the track as quickly as possible, whereas in an all out top end run, say from 80 to 150, you're looking to gain the most speed to walk away from the other car(s). For example, in the 1/4, a lot of the time you'll see your highest trap speeds without picking up your lowest ET.

What I'm getting at is if you're going to run through 3rd and 4th gears for a speed run, I'm wondering if it's more important to gain the most rpm/speed from each gear to help overcome the increased drag at the top end as you push into the next taller gear (4th and 5th gears) rather than shifting quickly, at lower rpms into the next gear, as you would in the 1/4 mile where you're goal is ET rather than speed.

On the other hand, maybe I need to drink some more coffee and try to wake up...

Steamroller: I thought the chart may be a mathematical projection of what is mechanically possible, based soley on RPM, gear rations, tire height. Thanks for the clarification. I thought what you confirmed.
